new apps are downloaded to my iphone under wifes apple id, therefore also show up on her iphone

Hey donmoore1532,
It sounds like you may be using the same Apple ID on your device that your wife is using on theirs.
This would be expected behavior, as downloaded apps are associated with the Apple ID rather than the device. We'd recommend using separate Apple ID's for each device to prevent that. You can see which Apple ID you're signed in on in Settings > [Your name].
