Inconsistent Lossless Indicator

I've noticed when using the iOS version of Apple Music that if I unlock my phone to check the lossless status of a song that is playing, there is no indication of lossless/hi-res. If I close the Music app and open back up and continue playing the song, the lossless/hi-res indicator now shows up. This happens on my home wireless network and also on my cellular carrier's 5G network. I have my settings set up right to enable lossless play (as shown by the fact that it works correctly upon restart). I realize I'm not missing anything audibly with my bluetooth buds, and I probably don't notice the difference when using my DAC and wired headphones, but something seems to be not working right. Might this just be a bug that causes the lossless indicator to not show up when it is actually playing the lossless version of a song?

Hi there met_fan,

Can you tell us where you are looking for the lossless icon? Are you not seeing it when viewing the album in Apple Music after unlocking your iPhone 13 Pro? We want to make sure we understand where it might be possibly missing.

Until we learn more details, you could see if updating your iPhone 13 Pro may help. Updating can remove any possible unexpected issues in the software, if any are present:

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly
1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

Those steps are from this article: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

We look forward to your response.

Take care.

Hello met_fan,

Good to know. Did you update to the current iOS version for the latest fixes? It wasn't clear from your reply.

You can often resolve simple issues by closing the app: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch

Then restarting your iPhone: Restart your iPhone

To learn more about this, do you only use Apple Music on your iPhone or with other Apple device? If using other Apple devices, does the same issues occur on those devices, as well? We want to ensure we're completely on the same page and this only occurs on your iPhone.

Let us know.

Take care.

It’s the lossless icon that shows up directly above the play/pause button and below the song timeline scroll bar when you are looking at your current song in the Music app. As often as not, when I look at this view, there is not lossless or hi res icon displayed. However, if I quit the app, reopen the app, and continue playing from the place I stopped, the lossless icon appears.
