FCPX won't open my project anymore.
FCPX won't open my project anymore and I'm facing a deadline. Every time I try and open my project FCPX crashes and produces a report I cannot read. Can someone please help me? Thanks.

Are you running MalwareBytes continuously? Shut it off and reboot.
Where’s the media and library stored exactly?
Open the library. Select the library and export an XML. Make a new admin user. Reboot and log into the new user. Launch FCP and import the XML.

Opening the project or opening the library? When the application crashes hold Opt-Cmd when relaunching to trash the settings.
Please post an EtreCheck report https://etrecheck.com giving the application Full Disk Access in Privacy & Security System Settings. Copy the report and use the Add Text button to paste the result into reply box.
Boot into the new admin user. Open the original library in the new user. Make a new library and drag the corrupt project into the new library.
What is your recent FCP backup in the Final Cut Backups folder? Can you open that?
Luis: it was formatted EXFAT and I had to reformat it to APFS. This was the original reason my project and Fcpx kept crashing. When I reformatted to APFS it faltered the first time and then worked fine for a whole 24hours. Then suddenly without warning, after exporting the project twice it started crashing once again. I updated FCPX and after the update it tried to update each project and when it tried to update my main project a message came up saying the project was corrupt. Not sure why my project became corrupt. Apple support says it's probably one of the files I used in the project, which might be true. I performed 4 new edits prior to it all crashing again. One of those edits was a video I downloaded from twitter of 2 kids fighting. That was the only shady video file I used. The other possibility is that when I reformatted the external hard drive there was a power outage during the copying process of the data from one drive to the other. This power interruption gave me a problem as the data was temporarily inaccessible until i performed first aid and repair on the drive. Once the drive was repaired things seemed fine again until yesterday. Not sure if a corrupt project can be repaired. Not sure I want to work with FCPX anymore after this experience.
Done. Finally. I had to take the most recent back up and relink all the files and update it too. I had to relink some of the clips manually one by one for some reason. I'm outputting it now and have my fingers crossed. What I wonder is why apple support cannot read crash reports or etrecheck. Actually, their engineers are able to but support told me that they won't give me an interpretation. What's up with that?
Not unless there is a Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or some other backup that you can revert to. Even if media is kept externally, keeping the library on the system drive lets it be regularly backed up by Time Machine.
You have a 4TB drive that is FULL. This can't be good. Is that drive used with FCP? The report does not say how it is formatted, which is strange.
The library and the media are on the external? The media is inside the library or external to the library?
Did you export and XML of the library or of the project? What was the name? It will have a purple icon. Did you do a Finder search?
ETRECHECK REPORT. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
Does it crash when you open the library or open the project in the library? What happened when you trashed settings? Did that crash the application again?
Missed that one. I think that happens when the application is run without full disk access.
I am using a 4TB external hard drive formatted APFS and it was working fine until this afternoon. I did export an XML onto the desktop and cannot find it. I may need a step by step here. I have never done this before. So, I opened FCPX and then clicked once on the project and then selected export XML and I chose to desktop now I cannot find it. What did I do wrong?
My project is corrupted and is gone. It is gone. I have backed up versions that I have successfully reloaded into the updated fcpx but it's just not good enough because I have been editing everyday making little changes. I have to settle for what I managed to upload yesterday night. I'm abandoning fcpx and selling my computer and going to buy Davinci Resolve. Fcpx is not a pro editing program. I'm so angry right now. I spent 2 years on this project and suddenly in one minute it's all gone. Corrupted. Gone.
By the way the xml did not work.
Try Tom's advice, as always.
Also: having a power outage in the middle of copying files to a drive is a big issue.
If this had happened to me, I'd have reformatted the drive and started over from scratch.
Maybe the repair only appeared to be successful but left some inconsistencies that later emerged.
I did start all over. I had two external hard drives with all the data. I formatted one APFS and then copied all the data onto that one and used it to start over again. Everything was fine until I made 4 new edits and then the project stopped loading and FCPX crashed - only when I tired to load this project. Is there a way to recover a corrupt project?
FCPX won't open my project anymore.
