Get info/permissions

When I click on 'get info' on any specific folder on my desktop and try to create a drop box only for the folder it keeps reverting back to 'read and write' so not allowing any changes. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm using a 2015 macbook pro running Monterey 12.6.8

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 13.5

I have a feeling I’ve not explained it clearly, the drop box I’m referring to is in ‘get info’ to secure a specific folder, I think it says ‘write only’ drop box.

That's what my example does.

I created a folder named "Desktop Drop Box" on the Desktop, changed its Privileges to Write only (Drop Box) and dragged items into it:

... which is exactly what happens if I drag an item into ~/Public/Drop Box

If you drag items into another user's Drop Box they can see them but you can't:

This is how I created the example:

As you can see its Privilege is Write only (Drop Box). It sticks.

You should be able to create that same folder with the same Permissions by simply option-dragging ~/Public/Drop Box onto the Desktop.

If that's not what you want to do then I don't understand. As for why you want to do it, that's another subject altogether.

I don't know why that's happening. It's not supposed to happen.

Try this. Navigate to that Mac's already-installed User Drop Box folder, here:

~/Public/Drop Box

Option-drag it to your Desktop. That creates a copy of that folder, leaving the original one with its original permissions in place.

See if that works. You can rename it if you wish.

a Drop Box has already been setup automatically for each User at:

/Users/YourUserName/Public/Drop Box

other users can drop anything into that folder, which is write-only for them.

--------

if you are thinking of using commercial software DropBox, I recommend you reconsider.

You need to know that it was developed for a different Operating System, and severely punishes performance when allowed to run at login on a Mac, because it ignores the built-in MacOS [only] features that could make it fast. Instead, it reads your files non-stop, looking for changes by complete Brute force. It can be as bad as a Third-party Virus scanner.
