You can make the Lock Screen stay active for several seconds to several minutes.
Open Settings ➡️ Display & Brightness ➡️ Auto-Lock: Here you can choose the amount of time before the screen dims and the iPhone locks the screen.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, the iPhone screen goes back to sleep mode after approximately 5 seconds if no Face is detected or no touch on the screen is detected. There is no setting available to adjust that dwell time.

Wrong screen. I’m only talking about the Lock Screen. If your phone isn’t pointed at your face and is waiting for you to swipe up to enter your password. It goes black after about 5 seconds. -iPhone 12
