Just updated my MacBook Prob(2016). I can hear the sound that occurs when it opens; however, the screen remains black. Help

Try closing the display lid, then very slowly & carefully begin to open it just a little bit all the while looking to see if the display lights up with video. These laptops are known to have issues with the internal display cable becoming damaged (design & manufacturing defect). Sometime it is possible to open the display to about 45 degrees before the fault will trigger if opened slowly, other times it may even be possible to open further if the failure is just beginning.

You can also try connecting an external display to see if you get video on the external display. Sometimes it can be difficult to get video to the external display. Sometimes you may need to trigger display mirroring using Command + F1 for the non-touchbar model or Command + brightness down for the Touchbar model (you may need to expand the items on the touchbar so that the brightness control is next to the Esc key). Sometimes you may even need to log into a macOS user account before this becomes available (it is possible to log in blindly). Other times you may need to trigger clamshell mode by connecting a wired USB keyboard & trackpad, along with the power adapter & external display. Then close the display lid....sometimes you may need to force a power down, then power on the laptop again & closing the lid immediately after the startup chime.

FYI, the 2016 model is now considered "Vintage" so repairs are only possible as long as the necessary part(s) are still available. Personally I don't believe it is worthwhile to invest any money into repairs for this laptop since it is known to have issues with the Display cable and with the butterfly keyboard. Lesser known issue is that the USB-C ports tend to become very loose so cables no longer fit snugly, and if the battery (or keyboard) has never been replaced, then I'm sure it will need a battery soon. The money invested in repairs would be much better spent applying it to a new laptop.
