Will iPhone 15 reduce camera lens flare?

Did they mention if the infamous iPhone lens flare issue has been resolved in the new iPhone 15? Or is that there on purpose?

Yes, DSLR lenses have lens flare, however, the lens flare artefacts on the iPhones especially at night are quite extreme and a telltale sign it was shot on an iPhone. #flaregate

There are different mobile phone models that do not have this lens artefact (flare) issue. Odd that this has remained part of the iPhone for such a long time because they certainly could fix it. Unless they want them there for some reason.

I have iPhone 15 pro. the problem of reflections persists and is very annoying because they are amplified reflections, intense projections of light points at a different angle, not on the straight line of the source, not even if you photograph perpendicularly. The reflection of cameras is very different, more natural and more beautiful, sometimes pleasant. with this 15pro it seems like seeing the world from inside a spaceship, with strange lenses that generate so many reflections as if they were burnt pixels! sometimes the reflections look like the constellation Milky Way. even for videos there are exaggerated reflections placed between the lens and the framed subject. I'm thinking of changing my smartphone again, unfortunately.

I myself own an MFT camera. I can say that my lenses have hardly any lens flares, even when I shoot directly against the sun. Of course, the lenses also cost a lot and are physically built differently, but I also find the artifacts against the sun and in the dark clearly too strong. I have pre-ordered the iPhone 15 pro and hope that it will improve with it. In my opinion, this would be one of the best improvements ever for anyone who likes to take pictures.

There are two factors that cause the enhanced lens flare in the iPhone.

One is the coating they use on the lens. It's hard to see on an iPhone lens as they are so small but look at the lens on your camera. Notice that it has a slightly reddish or greenish tint to it, that is a coating they use to help reduce reflections in the glass and lens flare. Good lenses use two or three coatings on them. The stronger the coating, the less flare they produce.

The other factor that causes the lens flare to be so strong in the iPhone is the enhancement software they use. After the picture is taken, the iPhone applies a lot of processing to make night-time shots look brighter. The problem is, the software doesn't know the difference between regular lighting and the reflections so it brightens up the reflections as well causing the flare to be enhanced.

Apple said they are using a different type of coating on the iPhone 15 lens so hopefully this will help with the flare issue.

It might be the issue that the iPhone 15 pro max lens is longer by just a little bit. And a longer lens will create more lens flare than a shorter lens. That was on the iphone 12. Am I correct? But Apple should have corrected for this issue. Either in software or design. I see I got a tone of lens flare in one of my videos using the iPhone 14 pro max. And shooting at Monterey car week 2023, while I did not experience Lens flare, I somehow shot most of my videos in 1080P not 4K dolby vision. 4K Dolby vision is SOOOOO much better. The color and contrast in Dolby Vision is just amazing. I am not sure what happened since I just set every setting to HDR and 4K/60 and leave it that way. There is no reason to shoot in anything else. In 1080p the contrast is just so washed out. I find that some of my photos are like that, these have the washed out flat look with no punch like in Dolby Vision. And sometimes I see that the camera is adjusting and I get a dolby vision like look. But it is intermittent. Not consistent. I Hate the Flat lifeless look.
