MAIL does not work with eduroam

My Mac (Ventura 13.2.1; M2) when connected to eduroam wifi can use everything online (Safari, Chrome, and Telegram etc) but MAIL doesn't work as if I were offline.

Any clues why? How could I fix this? Thank you in advance

MacBook Air, macOS 13.2

A bit of digging got this

main Apple Mail app blocked on Eduroam in… - Apple Community

and, maybe more usefully,

University network blocks mail.app - Apple Community

which implies that Eduroam was indeed blocking mail ports - although it's very hard to believe because almost every user would have similar problems. Did you receive any information about email settings when you got the Eduroam sign-up details.

If not, you should confirm with either your college IT or Eduroam support that the standard mail ports are blocked and ask them for alternative email settings. If they are no help then could try contacting your mail provider and see if they offer any alternative ports for cases like this and change your email settings.

Or - you could just find someone who uses mail on Eduroam without problems and compare mail settings.

If all that fails, including the help in the second link, then a VPN might help.

Best of luck.

Go into System Settings (click Apple Logo on top LH corner of screen) and then enter "DNS" in the search box. Select "DNS Servers Network" and then in the DNS Servers box hit the "+" sign at the bottom and add type 208.67.220.220 then hit return. You might have to validate with your password.

Repeat this to add 208.67.222.222

These are Open DNS servers. Others are available but these are the ones I use. Can't promis this will fix things because it's hard to imagine anything else working without DNS - but let us know how it goes.

I also cannot send emails from my Gmail account, through apple Mail app, while on Eduroam network at a University. The IT dept. at my school said it's a google thing.. according to them, Google prevented emails being sent on eduroam network.. because of abuse. Their words not mine. It's very frustrating to have to shut off my wifi and use cellular data/mobile hotspot everytime I want to send an email.
