iPhone screen frozen on accessory not supported

It was plugged into my car via the car's build tin USB, charging and playing music through the car's radio, Then it said the above. Sometimes the port won't work after hitting a pot hole but it was working today. Then it stopped. the screen said "this accessory is not supported by this phone" "OK". When I press "OK" the OK bar becomes a bit grey-er as I touch it but the screen doesn't change. When I push the button or try to turn off the phone to reboot the phone the screen acts like it needs me to take care of the "OK" before recognizing other commands. I think a reboot will work but it was fully charged and its hops into sleep mode and is taking a long time to run out of charge.

As part of troubleshooting, were alternate and Apple-quality replacement cables tested?

Usually two+ sets of additional cables can be useful, to test/check for port damages..

..since 'hardware issues' may require portable devices, or installed vehicle hardware

of the aftermarket variety, to go into repair shop(s) for deeper thorough testing..

Due to the nature of these things, probable 'service diagnostics' should be looked into.

At some level, those may go beyond an Apple authorized service provider &/or Genius.

Should you need to order replacement cables from Apple online, there are several

adequate exact quality replacements; also OWC macsales has those as well.

There are a few (dozen?) options mentioned from search results

although some, clearly duplicate; through route, all may not be.

If I were to totally diminish value of my offline time to sub-zero

as a Volunteer, I might try a few; and alter search inquiry here:

Variables include those off-results with truly novel characteristics.

May change according to your choice of breakfast cereal or juice.

What would have saved lots of angst is if someone knew a way to force shut down for a reboot instead of having to wait for the battery to exhaust. But, yes, I was told by a Genius Bar person that Apple has a protocol within the phone that recognizes and zaps non-proprietary hardware, which may kind-of shocks the phone into this situation.
