ive an old Macbook and it will not update to big Sur, ive tried many times with different target disks and different install disks, ive tried to install over cmd-R and USB Disk and system update but I get every time error messages

So i managed to install Big sur with nvram boot-args=maxmem=1844
the Ram is faulty on 1845-1850
the macbook installed all systems from mavericks till catalina because these only need 1400MB Ram but Big sur verifys the sharedsupport.dmg with 7,73GB and that causes crc mismatches and the installation fails
with maxmem=1844 it can verify the file because of swapping in think.

Some build model years clearly may have clues within their
booted systems page, 'about your mac' and so on. Others
may require reverse lookup by model number or serial nos.

And those version macOS after High Sierra would seek APFS
partition mapping; as that is when it began. Erasure before
re-installing older, might be a requirement, due to this aspect.
Where the hardware seems defective and no credible way
or means to repair the smaller failure; sadly a larger costly
prospect might be replace the Logic board, or whole Mac.

no i search a way to mark the defektive areas so macos wont use them
While I'm not versed in command-line or bash, those may or not
be used to accomplish something. I have done some untoward
things to make products work differently ~ rather than toss it in
to the rubbish bin; or into recycle.

As a novice Mac user, in some grey areas, I'm not really sure of
the width or breadth of possibilities; where integrated hardware
has partial failure, that more likely would remove it from use.

Ive installed Ubuntu with kernel command in Grub
memmap=4G$50M to exclude the defekt Ram Area so from the 16Gig are 12Gig left.
That tool and different OS is likely to allow more time
of useful purpose with your MacBook hardware..
..Hopefully that could be a very long time!🌞
But i were very happy if i can use macos.
ive read with the command efiUnusableMemory i can say where not to use the faulty Ram Area but i dont know where i can put this command
