Issue with updating mac os

I have a 2015 MacBook pro that was running macOS Big Sur. Recently, it stopped turning on. I took it to Apple, and they checked it but found no errors. They installed macOS Yosemite and told me that when I got home, I could update it again to Big Sur. The MacBook was working, but when I got home and opened the App Store, there were no updates available. I then read online and downloaded the Big Sur installer. However, it starts installing almost at the end and either doesn't finish or shows an error. What should I do?

MacBook Pro 13″, OS X 10.10

Did you attempt to download the file via Wi-Fi? If so, I suggest that instead you use a wired Ethernet connection for your next download. It should work. (Move the corrupted Big Sur installer to the Trash and empty it.) Wi-Fi is often too slow for these very large files and they get corrupted. If Ethernet is not an option, you may have to do multiple Wi-Fi downloads to get a clean one that installs properly. Incidentally, changing from Yosemite to Big Sur is an upgrade, not an update.
