Need antivirus software for MacBook Air (Mac OS Ventura 13 5.2) ?
I purchased a new MacBook Air about a year ago. Do I need to get anti-virus protection? If so, what is recommended?

Hi there!
Good news! Mac computers do not need any sort of antivirus. Antivirus and similar types of software can interfere with macOS and potentially cause issues.
Here are some links that describe Apple's built-in malware protection, which are far superior:

Which? an independent UK consumer advice organisation recommends getting AV for a Mac.
It appears you have been misled. That is an advertising site that exists for the sole purpose of deriving revenue from them, as its Privacy Policy clearly states.
Based on your logic you should have multiple different installations of anti virus apps so that you will be safer. I am sure there are many third party anti virus app developers who could convince you that also installing their app will make you even safer.
You are free to install any app you want to install but please before doing so consider what experienced Mac users are telling you.
So to summarize what I've learned so far on this thread...
I can't trust advice about the performance of Apple products from an avowedly independent consumer test organization because they run adverts and therefore can't be considered independent.
I can trust advice about the performance of Apple products from a website funded by Apple.
From the website:
What we use your personal information for
...
Perhaps not the sole purpose but certainly one of them.
That refers to Which? (the major U.K. consumer affairs organisation) using personal information to advertise its own products, services and campaigns. It most certainly does not relate to third parties, which was the original inference.
It’s entirely reasonable to argue that the advice given by Which? is incorrect, but it is in my opinion scurrilous to suggest that the organisation is profiting from that advice and that it therefore lacks independence.
Thank you for your reply, but it is entirely irrelevant to what I was saying.
I have not commented on the wisdom or otherwise of using antivirus software on a Mac. What I have challenged is the assertion, made by another contributor, that a very reputable British consumer champion is in fact making recommendations on the basis of its income from advertising. I believe such an assertion to be entirely incorrect.
While this topic thread here was started by another person, whose ideas
and beliefs appear to differ from those of your opinion; if the reference
you propose is an actual being capable of scrutiny and uncovering any
neutral faith with facts, I'd be curious to know more.
But that seems rather unlikely, as even some of the US and Canadian
soothsayers and naysayers who spoke out against the capabilities of
Apple technologies; some did learn and grew from that effort. And a
few dozen others, failed to grasp and continued to spread false info.
These discussions are easier to enter than to exit, they will continue
to arrive in my mail; long after I've tired of their propagandistic trove.
.Glad to find one's opinion as relatively unfounded as other followers.
Happy Holidays+NewYear!
What happened after a year's time that made you believe you need 3rd party virus protection?
If you were not infected in a full year, I think that would be a clue.
Good point. I wasn't burgled and my house didn't burn down last year so I won't be renewing my insurance this year.
No organization that accepts advertising revenue can be considered independent, and that one makes it clear that they accept advertising revenue. Case closed.
Please link to or otherwise reference the section of its privacy policy that clearly states the sole purpose of Which? is to derive revenue from advertisers.
