Can you change the setting to send the text message with the return key?

When typing a text on my Mac, I don't like the automatic setting on messages that sends the text with the return key. Sometimes I want to use the return key to start a new paragraph, consequently sending incomplete messages that have to be deleted or edited. Is there a way to change that setting?
