Custom tones dissapeared after iOS 17 update

You will not believe the disappointment I felt after figuring out why my custom text tones weren’t working when I had my silent mode off. I think this is a really dumb thing to add to iOS 17 since it’s basically an excuse for people to pay more. Please give me back my custom tones! It’s so dumb to suddenly make us pay after having custom tones for years!

I just checked mine and my custom mail tone IS in the ringtones section. I see no way to assign it back to my mail tone. As mentioned prior, my custom text tone has not moved since ios17 and is still assigned to my text.

I actually talked to an adviser from Apple. They had me send an analytics and improvements. Supposed to call me Wednesday with results. I have NO tones making noise. So I have to randomly check my phone to see if anyone messages me.

just give us our custom text tones back Apple.

Also I have spent about £30 on tone downloads from your store. They are gone.

just sort the problem - that wasn’t until you did this upgrade !

if I try to pick a ringtone for the Phone app it lets me pick some but I can’t see all. If I tried to go back to one of my original custom ringtones for text messaging or mail incoming or mail sent I can’t even see the choices. The whole thing is very inconsistent

Can someone explain why Sherwood Forest isn’t a ringtone anymore but a text tone? That was my ringtone and now I can only get it as my text tone. I mean it’s a classic Apple tone. I don’t see why they have other classic tones just not that one. Is that part of the glitch?

ois17 updated again today! It still did not fix this problem. Custom Text tones are still unavailable! Maybe apple should repay us for the cost of this? I researched this issue and no one has a solution to this problem. I can’t believe Apple didn’t beta test this before releasing this version. I want the custom text tones back!

I thought about it. I bought this phone for my birthday, and was finally easing back in to using an iPhone again, and BOOM! Nothing was super wrong with my Samsung, I just want to. If ain’t broke don’t fix it applies here.

Well. That better be a bug as I’ve just purchased custom text tone and the fact that I can’t use it next day isn’t great.

If that’s the case I think Apple should refund everyone who purchased a ringtone to use it as a text ringtone.

Exactly. I had to again buy something today to see if that works. Wasted money. The advisors speaking to us over call representing Tech Support, seem to not have any clue about this. I have grown to realize the fact that, Don't upgrade Apple unless there is any security patch. They break one or the other thing. Last time, they left a bug with respect AirPod's battery charging and indication. I had calls close to 4 or 5 hours totally explaining them what's the issue. The frustrating thing is, I end up repeating the same thing again and again multiple times to various people involved in the process.

Then you probably do not have text tones that you purchased. Cause I have them purchased and can not use them because they are only in ringtone section now… with this IOS17 update they broke something and now they can’t seem to fix it. As the old adage goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!!! Still very angry cause Apple apparently dose not care and they are either gonna be sued over this or lose a lot of customers.

This is what mine looks like on my device with 17 and no matter how many times i download them it stays that way my other device with 15 on it they are there and i can assign them but then it snatches them right off because of the syncing i will have to look at my other device that has another version of os because i keep all of my devices because they work and i use them as backups and for continuity and just to play games on them

Ok on here we can quibble about the prices..

I have custom texts/ringtones that’s my choice.

I shell out over £300 a year on songs downloads etc…monthly fees….

Let’s not mention the ringtones I bought when I first went with Apple.

They get their money from me. I’m loyal.

Then they do this ?

Given that they are, these things still take time. It's not as if this is the only thing they work on. And, unless you are one of those engineers, you have no way of knowing how complicated the issue is, and what it's priority is.
