AirTag sharing failed
Tried to share AirTag with my wife with the new IOS 17 operating system. Keeps saying she is not eligible. We are on the same account and both phones are updated. Any ideas?

I was having this issue where it says the # is ineligible for sharing, and found a simple solution posted my MrL09 on Reddit. Worked for me and many others...
Here are the workaround steps to share:
Order of phone numbers on the contact card seems to matter!
I think the bug is somewhere in the contacts. I still had a problem adding my daughter to a tag using this method. She had her Apple Watch cell line listed first on her contact card, and I had to remove it and make sure the iPhone was the first phone number listed. I think the sharing system might default to whatever the first number listed is, and if it's not a compatible device you will get the error, regardless of other iCloud connections.

I am trying to share an airtag that is linked to my icloud account.
My phone is an iPhone 15 Pro running iOS 17.2.1
The person I want to share with has an iPhone 12 running iOS 16.6.1
The person also has an iPad Pro 11 running iPadOS 17.2.
The person's email account is a gmail (not icloud) account.
The person's gmail account I want to share with is the same account used on both the iPhone 12 and the iPad Pro 11 .
When I send the invitation to that person, it does not appear on the person's iPhone, but does appear on that person's iPad Pro 11 running iPadOS 17.2
If the person accepts the invitation that appears on the iPad Pro 11, then the items can be seen on the iPad Pro 11, but not the iPhone 12.
We really want the sharing to occur on the iPhone 12.
Ideas?
I had the same issue and resolved it by signing out of iCloud and back in.
However, even though I successfully shared my AirTags with my wife, I cannot share with my son, even after signing him out and back in.
Re: “… We are on the same account …”
Do you mean both sharing the same AppleID ?
If so, you shouldn’t be.
Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID - Apple Support
I could not get them to share with one individual. What worked for me was reseting the network settings on my iPhone. I tried all other resolutions to no avail, but the network reset did the trick!.
Settings > general > transfer or reset iPhone > reset > reset network settings
So I finally got it to work by using my iPad Pro instead of my iPhone. Thanks for the idea on signing out and back in.
I’d say make sure the email you’re using g for your wife is signed in for use as iCloud on whatever device is running iOS 17. That screwed me up trying to invite someone I tried with.
This worked for me too! None of the other suggestions worked such as removing, resetting, and adding the the tag back in.
Worked!!! But on step 4, I had to choose email instead of phone number.
And they all must have latest IOS version (17).
UPDATE: The person I want to share with has an iPhone 12 updated to iOS 17.3.
Same problem persists.
