imovie is glitchy when importing videos its they come into edit bar as photos

I have been using iMovie for some time now and feel quite comfortable with it.

I haven't used it in several months, and I have started some new projects and am having trouble bringing video into the edit bar of a new project. When I hit the + key, they add as still photos (most of the time....sometimes it actually works). I have also tried to drag/drop them into the edit area and again, they show as still pics:( I have also opened my photos file and tried the drag/drop method, and sometimes it works, but most of the time they show up as still pics:(

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Sometimes an iMovie preference can go awry and cause unexpected behavior. Try deleting/resetting preferences and see if that cures the still image issue. To delete/reset preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes. Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

Thank you so much Rich! I ended up getting on the phone with support and they helped me through some stuff, but ultimately I had to go purchase a new Mac! Mine was apparently "a classic" hahahahaha!
