Hi I updated to iOS 17 yesterday and my wallpapers are getting blurred on the top, my wallpapers from the top seem to be fine yet but I found beautiful new wallpapers and it’s ruined because of the top blur. My phone is an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Just got done messaging with IT from Apple, this is a new “feature” in iOS 17 and this is how it goes, if you zoom out or try to make it look the way you want it to, the image will blur, if you zoom in, it unblurs. As of now he said, there is no known fix to this other than having a wallpaper that perfectly fits the format for the specific iPhone you are using. He said Apple did this to provide a cleaner look in general to the time battery indicator etc. Idk if this is true or not, but knowing Apple, this is most likely the reason.
So, if you want a perfect fit when finding a wallpaper for your iPhone, I recommend what has worked for me so far after this nonsense of a “feature” has been added, this link shows all of the pixel sizes etc for each iPhone up to the 14 Pro Max. The person you are talking to is correct. The blur option you are referring to is not the same as what is being discussed. It’s also not a bug, it’s an intended feature. Leave it to apple to restrict their users in the most obnoxious and dumb ways they can think of.
I'm sure it's a feature that was added so we can see widgets better, but I'm not fond of it at all. Like, if you don't want to create a wallpaper that Apple automatically zooms in for you and decide to zoom out, the top blurs, and distorts the image. I'm sure it's situationally fine, I just want to be able to easily disable that feature.
This is annoying. Once the zoom triggers on some wallpapers, it makes the Clock and other text unreadable. For some reason iOS 17 seems to add a dark blur and then use dark colors for the text.
Please provide an option to switch between dark/light colors for the textual elements. The current color system is unusable and makes things even worse when I try to use it
This is why I use a photo as my lock screen photo, which cannot interfere with the controls or get blurred. This is my current one (though I have edited it using Markup to include language on how to reach me if someone found my phone). And the black back makes everything else pop on my screen PLUS make the Dynamic Island, pretty much invisible!
Indeed, I also noticed that old pictures taken with another IOS and not with my new iPhone 15 pro, do not blur. So I tried it ...old pictures taken with my iPhone 13 mini IOS 16 do not blur, taken with my iPhone 13 mini IOS 17 they do blur...
I am having the same issue on iOS 17.0.3 as well, I have to basically over zoom on my wallpapers just to avoid the blur even though I'm using wallpapers that originally looked just fine on my 14 Pro before I updated. I swear, iOS 17 has been one of the glitchiest releases I've dealt with to date.
Same thing here. I have a slideshow of pics that change every hour on my 14 pro max. It was perfect… now, after the update, it’s all whacked out. It look as good with the top portion blurred out. Especially when it’s a face. Just give us the option to turn it off Apple

There’s a cropping feature that will crop your photo to be exactly the size for wallpapers. But it doesn’t help if you’re using the photo shuffle feature for your wallpapers. The wallpapers still get awkwardly zoomed in and if you try to manually fix them, the blurring thing still happens

Well you wouldn't. But then you are responding to a post I made more than a month ago, when iOS 17 was just released and we didn't all know this was a new feature of iOS 17. If there was a way to change what I wrote back then, I would, but there isn't. Perhaps look at the date of the posts you're responding to, before replying.
Completely agree with you! It is ridiculous, wall papers that look amazing are now utterly ruined because of the most recent update! Apple should at least given us the option to turn it on or off, and should get new testers as well! Cause clearly the people that approved of this need to think about the bigger picture. If what they are updating is what the community wants, how people would react to it, and thinking of the people who may want to turn that option on or off.
I am having the same problem. It auto-zooms a little into the picture, and when I try to pull out, it "extends" the picture at the top with a bad blur effect. Ruins my photo, which is intended to fit the screen exactly. I have lots of these photos, and they always worked before. SIGH
This feature must be reverted! Please address this in future updates cause nobody’s happy with it. It’s annoying and it’s another thing that blocks the freedom of customisation on our iPhones… instead of you deciding what’s best for us, let each user decides if the background is merging with the folders or not. Or, change the folder and text aspect to be visible according to the wallpaper photo we have chosen instead of blurring the photos we want to set up as wallpaper.
Me too it ruins completely the background, I think they thought that maybe u couldn’t read the time but it’s just pure nonsense.
