Hi I updated to iOS 17 yesterday and my wallpapers are getting blurred on the top, my wallpapers from the top seem to be fine yet but I found beautiful new wallpapers and it’s ruined because of the top blur. My phone is an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Figured out how to fix it on my IPhone 11. Go to settings, then Wallpaper, then do New Wallpaper…it lets you pick a photo for the wallpaper…then you can click over on the Home Screen and change it if you want. But at the very bottom right hand corner you should see a raindrop looking image that says “blur”. If you click that it removes the blur from the image.
Yeah this is absolutely ridiculous. Even when trying to use a photo I’ve had as a wallpaper before, this stupid “feature” goes and ruins the whole thing. 🤦🏻♂️ they never fixed the landscape wallpaper (when you swipe down from the top left while in widescreen mode) issue introduced in iOS 16 so this has got me a bit worried.
I doubt Apple will do anything about it no matter how much we complain. I shared a screenshot to show what the issue is that we are experiencing since some people don't seem to understand what we are talking about and I received an email last night that Apple removed it because it didn't pertain to the topic at hand or some ridiculous non-sense. The screenshot was nothing offensive, it was simply a pic of my Dog that I had made a wallpaper to show how the top half of the screen is completely blurred out after cropping.
What’s even more annoying about this is that it is seemingly super easy to avoid if when we choose the photo, it simply WOULDN’T ZOOM IN by itself because then we wouldn’t be trying to zoom out and thus triggering this annoying blur effect 🙄

Half of my wallpapers are ruined. Who thought it was a good idea to blur HALF of the image when not zoomed and to not to put a button to switch it off?
Whoever must hate its customers, it's driving me crazy.

Tell Apple. The more people who submit feedback to Apple, the more likely they are to make a change.
The person you are talking to is correct. The blur option you are referring to is not the same as what is being discussed. It’s also not a bug, it’s an intended feature. Leave it to apple to restrict their users in the most obnoxious and dumb ways they can think of.
I'm sure it's a feature that was added so we can see widgets better, but I'm not fond of it at all. Like, if you don't want to create a wallpaper that Apple automatically zooms in for you and decide to zoom out, the top blurs, and distorts the image. I'm sure it's situationally fine, I just want to be able to easily disable that feature.
This is annoying. Once the zoom triggers on some wallpapers, it makes the Clock and other text unreadable. For some reason iOS 17 seems to add a dark blur and then use dark colors for the text.
Please provide an option to switch between dark/light colors for the textual elements. The current color system is unusable and makes things even worse when I try to use it
This is why I use a photo as my lock screen photo, which cannot interfere with the controls or get blurred. This is my current one (though I have edited it using Markup to include language on how to reach me if someone found my phone). And the black back makes everything else pop on my screen PLUS make the Dynamic Island, pretty much invisible!
Indeed, I also noticed that old pictures taken with another IOS and not with my new iPhone 15 pro, do not blur. So I tried it ...old pictures taken with my iPhone 13 mini IOS 16 do not blur, taken with my iPhone 13 mini IOS 17 they do blur...
I am having the same issue on iOS 17.0.3 as well, I have to basically over zoom on my wallpapers just to avoid the blur even though I'm using wallpapers that originally looked just fine on my 14 Pro before I updated. I swear, iOS 17 has been one of the glitchiest releases I've dealt with to date.
Same thing here. I have a slideshow of pics that change every hour on my 14 pro max. It was perfect… now, after the update, it’s all whacked out. It look as good with the top portion blurred out. Especially when it’s a face. Just give us the option to turn it off Apple
(yes I read the other comments and no you cannot turn it off on Home Screen slideshow)
