AirTag sharing not working iOS 17

I want to share an airtag with my wife, bit its not working. We are both on ios17, we are also family sharing in icloud.

I have tried both her phonenumber and apple id when trying to share, but both dont work.

After sharing, her name is on the share airtag tile in find my, but behind her name it says not shared. And when I select her name it says: airtag cant be shared because of an unexpected error, delete this person and try again. (Not this exact text, this is translated as my phone is not in english)

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Well,I deleted the airtag from my account. Than added it to my wife's account (after also resetting it) and I was able to share it from her account to my account. That apparently did something, because I was now also able to share the airtags still on my account with my wife.

Hi guys, I have apple 14 and husband 13 pro max. We both have iOS 17.1.2. AirTag on my phone. Sharing with him, but the air tag on his phone is saying no location. We tried unshare and reshare. Tried to share with phone number and iCloud ID

Same thing happened to my family. We’ve shared luggage air tags numerous times. The sharing disappears within a couple of days with no message or error to be found. I wish Apple believed in event logging or any logging so I could see what the sharing failed and reverted. Seems completely unstable and useless to depend on AirTags. Time to go to Tile!

I just bought the 4 pack this past weekend, and the same exact thing is happening to me. I've done the reset and remove/add again and thought I had it but they still disappear. I use them for my pups and one for the AppleTV remote that we ALWAYS lose haha.

Was just wondering if you heard back or if you've figured it out.

I was right.. Phones such as the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and any version of the iPhone older than these will NOT support iOS 17. If you have one of these phones, or someone you would like to share an Airtag with has one of these phones, you will not be able to share an Airtag location with them.

Returning my AirTags for refund. Can’t afford new iPhones for the whole family.

No matter what I do, even though my mom’s AirTag registers on my phone it doesn’t work. She’s constantly losing her keys and this to help her keep track and share it with me so I can help her. It’s worse than useless.

@qing52. I will try this process (28Feb2024) and report back. I am thoroughly unimpressed with Apple's support on this considering the feedback regarding iOS17 issues with shared AirTags. This is not the Apple I know, and politely I have been using Apple products since 1983. Yes I am that old.

It's working for some days, and then, not...

We have 10 Airtags, resetting all each time is really making me crazy
