AirTag sharing not working iOS 17

I saw there's a firmware update for the airtags.

Let's cross fingers it will resolve these issues (2.0.61 vs current 2.0.36).

I have the same issue, I can successfully share an AirTag with another user, but that other user can’t see the AirTag, the Other user gets an “AirTag Not Reachable” or “No location found” status. In addition, if the Other user is near an AirTag in motion (e.g., we're traveling together while the shared AirTag is nearby), then they get the menacing "Unknown AirTag" alerts, even though the AirTag shows up as shared in the Other's "Find My".

Here are the devices used:

• AirTag, new from box, purchased a few weeks ago

• Me: iPhone 13, iOS 17.1.2 (I’ll use “Me” here to describe my phone)

• Other: iPhone 13, iOS 17.1.2 (I’ll use “Other" here to describe the person’s phone who I want to share the AirTag with)

• Other user location shared with Me in “Find My/People” and vice versa, with no issue, as “People” we can see each other; Other user can see AirTag in my “Find My/Items”, but can't see the location of AirTag

Here are the various troubleshooting steps I tried, none worked:

• Use “+” from Contacts to select an email or phone number directly when sharing, vs. choosing from suggested users

• Updated both Me “My Card” and Other “My Card” to use a “+1”, "or 1" in front of US phone number; updated Other’s Contact card for me, and vice versa to all match; also tried with no "1" just a "(111) 111-1111" format

• Confirmed that Apple ID emails match for Me “My Card” and Other “My Card” (e.g., the Contact card for me “My Card”, and the Other’s Contact card for me, match)

• Remove and replace AirTag battery

• Disabled and re-enabled Find My on each phone

• Disabled and re-enabled Privacy / Location Settings on each phone

• Disabled and re-enabled Bluetooth on each phone

• Assigned the AirTag to Other, then from Other shared with Me, Other could see the AirTag just fine, but when sharing with Me, I have the same issue – I can’t see an AirTag shared with me by Other

• Multiple restarts

• Tried different AirTags

Again, there is no issue with Me successfully sharing the AirTag with the Other user, but the Other user always shows “No location found”. Even worse, if the AirTag is near the Other user (e.g., if Other drives my car when I have an AirTag inside), Other user gets the menacing “Unknown AirTag” might be following you, even though the AirTag has been successfully shared!

Are there other troubleshooting steps I should try? It seems like a lot of users have this issue, please reply to this thread so Apple can find a solution? I bought these AirTags primarily to be shared (e.g., a shared bag or shared car), so the false positive alerts on "Unknown AirTag" defeat the purpose of me buying them in the first place.

Do you have a iPhone 14 or newer? I got it to work with an iPhone 14 ProMax and an iPhone 14 Pro with 17.02. Make sure both have find my phone and sharing turned on.

I have a different issue just now. I did a bunch of tag sharing two nights ago, and all was well; but just a moment ago, all my sharing reverted. Note that I just updated to 17.0.1 - my family members are still on 17.0

Same is here.

1. I’m not able to share Air Tag with all members of my family. For some of them I get the pop up window (see attached screenshot #1)
2. After sharing Air Tag, the page of that Air Tag in the Find My app is freezing (see attached screenshot #2)

I just wonder the difference between the 2 possibilites.

Moreover, I never know which one to use email or phone nb. Not clear what the difference is.

I’m still having this issue on iOS 17.1

My spouses shared AirTag disconnects from my view every few days after I’ve shared them.

My shared AirTags initially did this once early in iOS 17 but did not reoccur after the iOS updates.

I will try re-paring her AirTags to her phone and see if that improves the feature otherwise I may restore my phone due to other possible connectivity issues tied to the 15 series and/or iOS 17

So, it turns out that the feature only works when the account you are trying to share an AirTag with/from turns 16 years old. I don’t know of any way to bypass that or share it anyway.

I just updated to 17.0.2 and the option to share my AirTag just completely disappeared from the app.

I also tried messing with location and screen time settings and even offloaded and deleted the app, but nothing helped.

I am having the same problem. Two Apple 13 phones on same iCloud account. Will not let me share. When I hit the + sign it just says pending then an error occurred. Sadly I can not delete and reattach the airtag as I am trying to track a stolen item and will give my second phone to the police to help. Would appreciate any advice.

Got the same problem. Can’t share AirTag with my wife. Also deleted from list and add as new one doesn’t fix the problem. Only show my wife on list with label “not shareing” and notification that there is some trouble with share…

We both got iPhone 12. Hope they will fix this issue.

I received pop-up msg that It is under withdraw invitation but I didn't receive any invitation from Apple to add my airtag

moreover I did update to 17.1.1 now I am receiving (FIND MY UNAVAILABLE, UNABLE TO SHARE ITAG, PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER)

This is really annoying. I share my 9 airtags with my wife, it works, but after a while they all disapear from her phone.

Same for hers on mine...

Really a pain, as it takes 20mn to do it each time.

Tried that, doesn’t work. It lets me share with another account but when looking from another account phone, it shows “No location found” (while I have both the phones on the same desk). Upon clicking ‘Play sound’ it shows “Airtag Not Reachable Move around to connect”. I just bought the tags today and already disappointed xd

I have the same problem … sharing the Airtags is not working… shared Airtags were added on the other iphone but it shows no location found ! I have tried all the solutions and unfortunately nothing seems to work for me … my iphone is 12 pro max and the other iphone is 15 running the latest firmware and I have unpaired the Airtags and added again …. I have reseted the network settings…. This issue makes me crazy
