After updating to WatchOS 10 my yellow walkie talkie icon at top of screen stays on. All watch faces show it at top. It used to flash on then go away but now it’s always there. I have restarted watch a couple of times and have fully charged. Model is the Ultra if that matters.

Press in side button to get to Control Center and turn it off.
Have them send a text to turn it on. Or better yet phone you.
You’re right. It was the same for me. It would flash for a moment when the face lit up then go away. Now it’s always on unless I turn it off from control centre.

I don’t think that is true. I typically use minimal faces and I believe I would have noticed this, but possibly not. The behavior in the past was it would show the yellow walkie talkie icon for a moment then fade away. Now it is always on. I like the walkie talkie feature being on for kids to get ahold of me. I’m hopeful this will be either a bug fix or feature add for always on or fade away
That kind of defeats the purpose of the walkie-talkie app in the first place if you have to communicate in a different manner first. You may as well just call. Apple can just make the icon go away when the watch face comes out of sleep like it has done for years before.
Thank you, I did that and it works but I didn’t have to have it turned off before update.
On OS9 it also needed to be off - Maybe you tapped on it by mistake.
Leaving it on is a big battery burner. I suspect they put this in as a power saver.
If that’s true, then it basically makes walkie-talkie a waste of time because you have to have it activated for the other person to be able to contact you.
