iOS 17 text tones

Updated to iOS 17, just to find out that my custom text tones are no longer appearing/usable. Works fine for ringtones, but not text messages. I have different tones set for my most frequent people, so it’s irritating that they’ve all gone to default ‘ding’ sound.

I just compared my new phone with my spare (iOS15) and in the text tones there is a section for purchased tones and only R2-D2: 3Tone appears. Then there is a separate area called Ringtones that I can also choose for text tones on iOS15 but not iOS17.

Maybe you have to buy them only as Alert Tones from iTunes store. Possibly the ringtones are too long for alerts now?

I noticed this too. I don't see my custom tones under "Text Tone" if I want to assign them to a contact, only Apple's tones.( I still see them under "Ringtone") Luckily, the text tones that were assigned when I updated still work, sorry you lost that. I'll admit we're outliers for wanting this feature, but how bad would it have been to just leave it the way it was? I can't imagine selling text tones is a major revenue stream for Apple.

Tell Apple you'd like to see the feature back:

I tried that. As part of the purchase/download process, it asked me if I wanted to assign the tone to a contact as a text tone. I select the contact and everything. But, the tone is not available as a text tone. It is available as a Ringtone.

Agreed! There is a major issue with the text tones and ringtones. I know all of mine migrated to the new phone and the old ones are listed in the Contact, but they don't work and I can't reassign them to their old ones because they don't show up as options to choose from to set. This is at least the 4th post besides mine that I have found just today.
