iOS 17 Default Notification Sound has changed

Why did Apple unilaterally change my default notification sound from tri-tone to Rebound? I suffer from hearing loss and can no longer hear the notification sound. Why can’t the iPhone user control what sounds are used for their notifications? Much like Pavlov’s dogs responding to a bell, for as long as I have used an iPhone, I have been able to hear the notification sound and know what it was notifying me about without looking. Now Apple just decides on its own to change the sound while preventing users from setting their own notification sounds. That is so self-righteous of Apple to assume they know what sounds users want or need to hear.

Unnecessary change is not always better. It doesn’t improve the user experience, it now just makes it silent for me. Please allow users to select what sound to set for notifications.

You can now change it! Under sounds and haptics in settings there’s now a “default alerts” section and you can change the tone back to tri-tone! :)

I am hard of hearing and cannot get a hearing aids. So, when I updated this, nearly all of my alerts and rings are gone. I cannot hear the faint beep for my alerts and notifications. And I am missing several of my alarms for every day things like taking my needed medications and waking up to go to work, doctors, hearing the notification on my ring (safety issue), etc. I rely on those alerts, notifications, and alarms daily. Whomever thought of this change, did not think of the hard of hearing people and the elderly. Bye bye iPhone as soon as I pay this phone off, adios. Please put it back.

yeah I also struggle to hear, and now I’m struggling to know which app is notifying me, I also feel like the vibrations have been lighter feeling, where I work it’s nice to know who’s messaging, it’s so annoying they changed it and we can’t change it all, they need to let us have control over how loud our sounds are, what they sound like, and how strong the vibrations is, I’m so ****** off and annoyed at Apple for this new update.

Why we need to do a feedback? Why not asking the consumer what they like? Why not read or listen what people said about the issues in which people are complaining. Why Apple have to wait a long period of time to fix things up. Why not repair it right away? This rebound sound is way too low for the notifications, can you guys (Apple) tell us how to fix it?

Is there a more direct way to get their attention than the comment I've submitted on the Apple Feedback forum?:

"The new iPhone 'Default Notification Sound' (which is not user changeable) has overwhelmingly proven that it's totally in-effective as an Alert sound. This laughably 'timid' and gravely subdued sound is just too quiet to hear in a normal environment. As a result, I have missed appointments, deadlines, Alerts from my Home Security system, plus numerous business & personal commitments. I might as well just take a daily tranquilizer every morning and stay in bed.

Please bring back the 'Tri-Tone' alert sound, or give the user control over what sound to use.

And please, just delete the useless 'Rebound' sound."

I just updated this last night what a nightmare when I woke up! I hate that they changed my notification sound my German Shepherd had trained himself to go bark at the window when CPI sent a notification from my camera, now I can’t even hear it and he doesn’t know what it is!!!! Shame on you!!!! You don’t even give us a way to change it back!!! Fix it back ASAP! Thanks and God Bless!

No you can’t, call Apple Support I was informed that they don’t monitor this community support, you need to call them about your issue, I had posted a message to have it removed., this problem should have been resolved by not letting it continue to go to other people’s phones!!!!!! No way to fix no way to change it back no way to delete update!!”

Because of this little snafu and the lack of the almighty Apple not caring to fix this situation, I have decided to get an android phone the next time I need one. I am hard of hearing so now I cannot hear a text coming in or my alarms/reminders going off. I live by those alarms, it is not just an alarm for me to get up in the morning. It is alarms set for me to do many things throughout the day, like take my needed meds or reminders that I had a doctor appointment that day and what time. I cannot hear the alerts now from my security system and that is scary especially in today’s climate. This is totally unacceptable.

I just got the IOS 17 on my Iphone and that sound is terrible. Change to change is not always good. Even Microsoft Outlook let's you go back to the classic look if you do not like their update. Apple used to be the shinning leader. It is losing ground quickly. Customers should be able to chose their own standard alert sounds. The Iphone 15 is not significantly better than the 12. No Flip screens, nothing radically new is the design. Apple used to be all about design and a step ahead of everyone else. It is no longer. I'm confident that Steve Jobs would be innovating at a faster clip. Where is the advanced AI Chat GBT or Apple's own version of it included into the iPhone? That is where apple should be at this point. Please let's us change the new tone which is very silent and irritating.
