Deleting and reinstalling it was the only way it started working again.
Trusting your knowledge about data loss, I did delete and reinstall the app. Tasks is now working. Thank you.
Not sure why you’re concerned about losing app data as all that info is stored in the cloud. Deleting and reinstalling it was the only way it started working again.
Hello Djohn828,
Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
These steps can help if an app isn't working as expected:
"If an app on your iPhone or iPad doesn't work as expected, try this.
Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.
Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.
Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.
Delete the app, then redownload it
Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed."
Additional details and steps can be found here: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open
If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Are you seeing any errors or alerts?
Cheers!
I'd suggest deleting the app and adding it back. As I said, I had now problem adding a task.

Also for me, when I tap tasks, nothing happens. Restarted the app, then the phone. Problem remains.
Then, as I suggested to someone else, it's time to contact Google.

Same for me. Only events can be initiated.
Have you uninstalled Google Calendar and re-installed it?
I just tested it on my iPhone and had no problem.
It's not clear to me what the picture you posted is supposed to be showing. It looks exactly the way mine does. "Event" is the default selection. All I have to do is tap on Task. What happens when you tap on Task?
Same for me, when I click on task, it does nothing.
It does not let me add a task to my calendar. Also, if I want to view past, present and future tasks, now I have to search for them the view is different. Only some of them are viewable on my calendar without searching.
Just updated to iOS 17 and now tasks don’t work on my google calendar. Restarted phone, deleted app and reinstalled and checked for updates( there were none). How do I fix or how do I delete the update?

IMHO it is Apple's responsibility to make apps backward compatible when updating iOS. Nothing should break.
Apple has no control over Google's apps. Perhaps what you meant to say is that it's Apple's responsibility to make iOS backwards-compatible with all the apps in the App Store? That's simply an absurd idea. That's like saying Honda has to make their cars backwards compatible with all the third-party accessories ever made for a Honda.

Nothing happens when you press the Task button, there’s no visual or any other feedback and the task dialog does not open.
I’m having the same problem for a few months now. :/
So you're having the problem after uninstalling and re-installing the app?
If you mean how do you delete the update to iOS 17, you can't. However, I don't think that's the actual problem. If it was, it wouldn't work for anyone. But, it does.
I'd suggest you contact Google.
I have done all these things except delete the app. Don't want to lose app data. Tasks broke with the latest update. Please fix the bug.
Also for me, when I tap tasks, nothing happens. Restarted the app, then the phone. Problem remains.
