Abort Messages IOS 17 'Swipe To Reply'

IOS 17 has many new features one of which is Messages 'Swipe To Reply'. To activate this feature is pretty straightforward simply select the bubble you want to reply, swipe right add your reply. But what if that's the wrong bubble or you didn't want to reply to that contact! That is exactly what happened to me, I did eventually abort Messages after faffing around for a little while, I simply couldn't find a straightforward way to abort/exit 'Swipe To Reply'.
