How to recover a deleted voicemail

Accidentally deleted a phone message before I had the opportunity to listen to the message. Hope to be able to restore message from backup.

Usual: Phone app > tap Voicemail > scroll down to the bottom of the voicemail list, and tap Deleted Voicemail > tap the deleted voicemail you want to restore > tap the red trashcan-with-a-slash icon.

If the message is not in the deleted list, or was deleted again from the deleted list, the carrier might be able to restore it. Maybe.

The sequence described above (Phone app > tap Voicemail > scroll down to the bottom of the voicemail list, and tap Deleted Messages > tap the deleted voicemail you want to restore > tap the red-trashcan-with-a-slash icon) works in iOS 17.4.

I’ve checked and deleted voicemail is available for recovery in iOS 17.4. Lots of spam voicemail available locally, too.

if you have no Deleted Messages shown at the bottom of your list of voicemail, you either have no deleted voicemail, or your carrier doesn’t implement that feature. Contact your carrier.

I'm having the same issue and the VM was from the hospital

The sequence I described above (Phone app > tap Voicemail > scroll down to the bottom of the voicemail list, and tap Deleted Voicemail > tap the deleted voicemail you want to restore > tap the red trashcan-with-a-slash icon.) still works in iOS 17.2.1.

I’ve checked and the deleted voicemail is available for recovery in iOS 17.2.1.

Is it possible your carrier has either deleted the deleted voicemail messages, or is not supporting deleted voicemail recovery, or has somehow gotten their voicemail service tangled?

Check with your carrier, as a starting point.

After 17.2.1 update if the VM is still in the deleted voicemail folder then go to deleted voicemail folder .

1) click on the message that you want to recover

2) look for a red trash can with a slash through it (bottom right hand corner)

3) click it (don’t freak out the message will disappear and go back to your regular voicemail folder)

hope this info helps

I’ve checked and deleted voicemail is available for recovery in iOS 17.3.1. Lots of spam voicemail, too.

How do I retrieve a voicemail that I deleted

Hello and welcome to the thread.

Here is the sequence to recover once-deleted voice mail messages that are still present at the carrier voice mail server:

Phone app > tap Voicemail > scroll down to the bottom of the voicemail list, and tap Deleted Messages > tap the deleted voicemail you want to restore > tap the red-trashcan-with-a-slash icon

If the voice mail messages are not included with the Deleted Messages whether having been deleted a second time from within Deleted Messages, or whether having expired and been deleted automatically from the carrier servers, then contact the carrier and ask if they have access to recover those twice-deleted voice mail messages.

Reading previous posts in the thread before posting will often get you the answer and with less effort.

Bummer about deleting that message! If you've got a backup, you might be in luck. Just restore your phone from the backup where the message still existed. If your phone’s backup is automatic, like on iCloud for iPhones or Google Drive for Androids, you can check there. Remember though, restoring from a backup might replace any data you've added to your phone since that backup was made. Always a bit of a trade-off!

Generally, there are three available methods to recover deleted voicemail on iPhone. From the message trash, iTunes or iCloud backup and the iPhone message database. Here is a quick tutorial to help you retrieve deleted voicemail on iPhone:

P.S. Don't forget to backup your iPhone to avoid data loss in future!

After the latest update I lost all my voicemails even though I carefully deleted some, leaving my deceased brothers voicemail to listen to as a precious memory. I am so angry that this happened!! I am contemplating never owning an iPhone again and I‘ve always had them! This broke my heart! 💔

iPhone provides a way to download voicemail to local storage, where you can back it up elsewhere.

I have some voicemail like that. Which I have downloaded and saved elsewhere.

Most folks here have lost data due to no backups. I certainly have. Which is why I have copies of the most important.

For this particular case, check with your carrier too, and see if they still have the voicemail in their system.

I am in similar predicament. The update itself deleted ALL of my voicemails. There is no “deleted voicemails” icon to push.

This is a very different predicament (you didn’t delete the messages, and everything has disappeared) and given there are no voicemail messages and no deleted voicemail messages, there is nothing to recover.

Check with your carrier.

The carrier may well have “misplaced” the association of your line with your voicemail, for instance.
