AirPrint not working after iOS 17 Update

I have a laser jet about 8 years old-MFP M277dw. I resolved it by downloading and installing the updated HP Smart App annd setting it up with my laser jet. I also rebooted my devices and my router/ gateway. I only connect via wifi and mostly use AirPrint.

Whenever I send something to the printer, I go to the options box at the top of the first dialog box I get and I have to uncheck”automatic” and change the type to pdf, current, individual photo, image or whatever other specific option I want.

In the dialogue box for actions -do not select print. Select the print with HP Smart option.

This sends the image to the HP Smart app to print.

BTW the HP smart app is awful!- you lose the options to select a particular type or size of paper and you have to wait for the job to finish printing before you can do anything. It is very poorly thought out.

After you restarted your router and devices did that allow you to print again? Or only having the HP app is allowing you to print now? I had seen other suggestions to turn off private WIFI address if that was enabled but that did not change anything. iOS 16 did not have this issue. Whatever they changed in iOS 17 has broken airprint for older printers.

I have a newer HP and recently solved the printer problem I was having post most recent software update. Had to forget the printer and restart everything and find the printer. Printer works normally now but can’t scan anything

Yes, exact same issue except it’s a LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw also a 2019 firmware. I have 6 devices in my home that have iOS 17 and all of them have the same issues, can print from everything except the photos app. Every other device in my house can print fine wether Windows or Android.

I think I found a solution: I changed the Bonjour Service Name from the long multiple word string it had for a default to a single word “LaserJet” and I’m able to print from photos again. It’s so strange that it only affects the Photos App though

Problem solved for me, built small 5 volt AirPrint print server 3.142, couple of hours work, ($50), works with my legacy Kyocera printer via USB cable, works with iOS 17.2 from my iPad, I can also AirPrint from MacBook running Sonoma sorted!

If you have Norton for IOS, and have websafe on, this will cause AirPrint problem identified here. Also some apps will not function - the Marriott app Bonvoy will give you a MiTM (Man in The Middle error) and not load.

I was having the same problem printing to an HP9015e printer with my iPhone. I tried everything I found on the Internet and finally decided to delete any HP app from my phone (HP ePrint and HP Smartprint) and then doing a hard reset on my phone. It seems to be working now. If it doesn't solve the problem I will update my post.

I upgraded to iOS 17.1.1 and now I cannot print to my Canon MF260. The printer "de-selects' a few seconds after I select it. We need an OS fix for this issue as it seems 17.1.1 does not have Canon device drivers for Air Print in it.

In addition, I have tried every suggestion offered by the community (updating my printer drivers, turning everything (modem, printers, devices, etc) off and then rebooting. Nothing has worked This is obviously an iOS 17 problem that Apple needs to fix.

If you have a web proxy this will also cause airprint issues - for some reason this only started with IOS 17. You will need to turn off the web proxy when you AirPrint. I have also had issues with some apps, that won’t function until I turn web proxy off.

See above post by Techguyuk and you will see it’s related to the bonjour version of the printer and if the printer is old and a new firmware version isn’t available, it might not support it any longer. I can confirm even with testing versions of 17.2 that it hasn’t been resolved.

Both myself and my partner updated our iPhone 12 to IOS 17.1.1 this AM. Neither can now print anything to our Cannon printers. It allows you to select the printer but it immediately disappears!

iPad prints ok.

MacBook Pro is waiting for installation of new version-postponing that!

If it was obviously an iOS 17 problem it would affect millions of users, and no one would be able to fix it. As it doesn’t affect millions of users, and most of the participants in this thread have fixed it, it is not an iOS 17 problem; it is a problem with your network or your printer.
