Is it possible to accidentally download something outside of the App Store? I read something about side loading and wondering if this or other technique could be done by accidentally clicking on a web link or purposely clicking on a link you didn’t know would infect your phone. I have this phobia of malware and am wondering if there is any way whatsoever malware could end up on a non jail broken iPhone.
Thank you. As you all can tell, I’m OCD about this. But from what’s been said, it sounds like iPhone can’t get malware from websites, adds, videos, etc. Is this a correct statement?
If you have not jailbroken you phone, yes, the statement is correct.
You know it’s interesting. I’ve had several chats with the support folks at apple. Some say iPhone cannot get malware and others say you can, especially when I bring up this file issue.

If a website could “scan” your device, they’d just steal everything directly.
Malware scans are deeply intrusive operations.
Websites cannot “scan” your device.
Which means the websites lie, claim to perform a “scan”, and lately usually offer some unnecessary app you don’t need to solve a problem you don’t have and that hasn’t existed for a decade or so.
PS: apps installed from the app store onto the iPhone also can’t “scan” its contents.
