Sorry but this is a ridiculous answer. If your watch face switches it means you knew enough to create secondary faces and therefore will know how to switch between them, since the switching was way easier than the creation.
The simple solution is to have a setting "Allow swiping of watch faces" that can be turned on or off. Then everyone can be happy, which isn't always possible in life.
There are any number of frustrated user posts in these forums where this exact situation happened. And if those user found there way to the discussions forums, then even more of them found their way to Apple Support and Apple Stores.
It is unlikely Apple made this change in a vacuum. They frequently make changes to reduce support calls, as that just means frustrated users, and more costs to Apple.
HOWEVER, based on the volume of complaints we are seeing in these forums, I would say Apple did not grasp the outrage that would come their way because of this change.
NOTE: I'm not saying the switch was a good thing. I'm just saying there are reasons why Apple made the changes.
Personally, I would very much like to see Apple allow users to customize each swipe gesture so it does what the user wants. So you could have swipe left and right change watch faces, and the guy next door could have swipe left start the exercise app, and swipe right start the music player, etc... And yes, I've sent this in as feedback.
