Can't swipe left for other Apple Watch faces on watchOS 10

Since the lastest upgrade to watchOS 10, I am no longer able to swap left or right to see other watch faces. I tried restarting and unpairing my watch and it doesn’t work still. I have the first gen SE applewatch.

Apple has changed the method because too many users were getting accidental swipes changing their watch face. The new method is to Long Press the watch face, so it pops up the option to Edit. Don't pick edit, simply swipe left to right as before.

Switching Watch faces based on the complications I want at the moment is the number one feature I need.

Apple removed the ability to breezily swipe between Watch faces.

I just to let Apple know that this change makes the Apple Watch a pointless device for me. I will stop wearing my Watch (and buying new versions) if this feature is not restored in a future update.

The point of Watch faces is that you can set them up for different contexts (Work, Workout, communication, Weather, Travel, Fancy Event, Casual Event, etc.). The inability to breezily switch between them destroys the usability of having multiple faces set up in the first place. I hope they fix this right away.

This really irritates me. As a first responder I utilize my watch faces all differently depending on what I’m doing. I need them to be easily swappable so I can function on calls easier. Now pressing and holding is going to require more time between when I can take a pulse and have a stopwatch to look at for time or going to other apps for easy use. The point of having multiple faces was to swipe between the different ones.

I’m really upset they have removed the easy swiping between watch faces. I use each face for different things. Work, Fitness, Music etc. now it’s really difficult and non intuitive to quickly move to the face I want for the situation I want. Why would this change be forced on us? Please change it back - this is a huge step backwards!

What’s the point of the Apple Watch now… please bring back the swipe left and right for faces.
Also having the command center pop out from swiping up from the bottom screen is not on the side… what a hassle too…

Apple does not read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Changing faces with different compilations was essential for me. To create different compilations for different situation took some time. I need to change face quickly according to the situation. No problem if it changed randomly, it was easy to swipe and to set the right one. Please give us possibility to change in the Settings old way. I hate new way of changing faces every day. I do not use faces so much now and I miss it.

The same convenience that caused occasional accidental watch face swipeovers was so convenient that switching back to the correct face was also effortless. I never minded it when I looked down to see Mickey Mouse instead of my usual face. Flick flick, fixed. Please Apple, restore this important function.

Swiping pages of UI is a general navigation principle inherent to every Apple mobile device, and also the Mac with Spaces. Suddenly, this watch does not feel like it came from Apple without it. Face-swiping is the page-swiping of the iPhone and iPad. That paging gesture is as inherent what makes these devices feel Apple magical. Please make it possible to toggle on left-right swipe in the settings. Thank you.

But you KNOW how to switch watch faces. If you are a novice user and the watch face switches and you do not know how it happened, and do not know how to get your desired watch face back, it is EXTREMELY Frustrating. It also generates support calls, and Apple Store visits by upset customers.

As IdrisSeabright suggests, send your suggestions to Apple via her provided feedback link.

Sorry but this is a ridiculous answer. If your watch face switches it means you knew enough to create secondary faces and therefore will know how to switch between them, since the switching was way easier than the creation.

The simple solution is to have a setting "Allow swiping of watch faces" that can be turned on or off. Then everyone can be happy, which isn't always possible in life.

There are any number of frustrated user posts in these forums where this exact situation happened. And if those user found there way to the discussions forums, then even more of them found their way to Apple Support and Apple Stores.

It is unlikely Apple made this change in a vacuum. They frequently make changes to reduce support calls, as that just means frustrated users, and more costs to Apple.

HOWEVER, based on the volume of complaints we are seeing in these forums, I would say Apple did not grasp the outrage that would come their way because of this change.

NOTE: I'm not saying the switch was a good thing. I'm just saying there are reasons why Apple made the changes.

Personally, I would very much like to see Apple allow users to customize each swipe gesture so it does what the user wants. So you could have swipe left and right change watch faces, and the guy next door could have swipe left start the exercise app, and swipe right start the music player, etc... And yes, I've sent this in as feedback.

One of its major functions, that the watch will provide the information you need now is being taken over by the Smart Stack. And, regardless of what happens, I will adapt.

Exactly. The Siri face does seem to be incompatible with the Widget & Smart Stack. I think this is a significant sentence from the Press Release :

"A new Smart Stack contains widgets that display timely information that adapts to the user’s context and can be revealed with a simple turn of the Digital Crown from any watch face"

Except the Siri face!!

Introducing watchOS 10, a milestone update for Apple Watch - Apple

The idea that watch users have a collection of faces themed with different complications (weather, stocks, activity and so on) looks outdated.

Faces have now become styles. It doesn't matter which face or style you choose the Info/data you need is directly accessible from any watch face via widgets in the Smart Stack.

Furthermore applications are more prominent than complications.

How well this works I think we will just need to wait and see how the Smart Stack and Widgets develop going forward.

(I'm assuming it will develop and improve).

If it works really well there should be no need to swipe to different faces to access the info/data you're looking for.

I agree. I'm fairly adaptable so I'll most likely manage regardless. But, no everyone is and it may be hard on them.

(Please note that I'm not making judgements about adaptability versus a desire not to change. People are different.)
