AirDrop is not working after new iOS 17 update

I never had a problem with AirDrop on my SE 2 gen till I updated to iOS 17 and it was like bam didn't work after that then I upgraded to a 15 pro hoping it would fix some of that and exact same story only way I can AirDrop is if I hold my phone over and then it still doesn't work half of the time I'm currently on iOS 17.4 please fix it in iOS 18

This did not help. I dind't have restrictions turned on, but since you suggested this I turned it on and made sure that Airdrop was allowed. However, I still cannot Airdrop anything from my iPad Pro to my MacBook. This has been going on for months.

This is ridiculous. Please fix and lets us know when you've done so. In the meantime, not recommending iPad Pro to colleagues anymore. It's a pain in the ***.

For me this one was the issue: Firewall setting

1. Go to System Settings
2. Go to Network
3. Select Network right side Firewall
4. if the Firewall is enabled, then Click on Options
5. Disable the ‘Block all incoming connections’ toggle

If it solves it then I suggest you to do the following under Firewall Options:

a) press + (lower left corner)

b) in search field enter AirDrop

c) select AirDrop.app

d) select open —> it will then appear in the firewall options window —> select allow (green dot)

e) press / select OK

f) you could now enable Firewall

Thank you, that clue was all I needed: Firewall in Mac OS 14 was the problem all along! On the MacBook Pro (Mac OS 14.4.1), I went to Settings--->Network--->Firewall but could not add or delete anything from the list of allowed or blocked apps. (In fact, Settings froze completely and I had to force quit.) But I went back to Settings and turned OFF Firewall, turned it back ON, and now everything is fine.

Apple needs to fix the Firewall problem in Mac OS 14.

Been using workarounds for months now to airdrop from my recent SE phone and iPad Air, several times waisted a lot of time to try different suggestions from this forum and all to no avail…..rebooting numerous times this morning on both my devices still no improvement for the last decade at least always could airdrop without any problem until about 6 months ago and thought well ……..next update Apple will get this fixed but not so and this is getting very disappointing.

will just have to accept the fact that texting to my devices is the way to go and forget about Airdrop………..R.I.P. Airdrop

iPhone 15 Pro Max OS 17.5.1 -will not air drop to two Mac Laptops MacBook Pro and Air running 14.5 (23F79) Sonoma - tried everything on here No Go!! So frustrating!!

Airdrop will send from Mac to iPhone - iPhone to Mac No Go! - "No People Found" no matter what setting on iPhone - does not see the Mac!

This worked for me. At least for a couple minutes. Until they fix it I guess I’ll have to try that every time I need to airdrop photos.

Also i notice that my photos on google photo is uploading again like they are new pictures … since the update of ios17 the pictures seems to have a new identity
