AirDrop is not working after new iOS 17 update

This worked for me: turning off my 17.1.2’s phone VPN (I use PIA) finally allowed my phone to see my iMac for airplay. Thank you. I hope they fix this bug ASAP.

Turn off cellular on your phone. It always works for me. Look at the attached photos.

In Settings, General, AirDrop, Bring Devices Together (ON), Use Cellular Data (off), I was able to get it to work in iOS 17.1.2.

Try to clear some space from ur iCloud this solves my problems.. i hope u get it

I shutdown both phones and then started back up. That seemed to fix the issue. Start from cold.

Mine fixed after update to iOS 17.3.1 which includes a restart. Go figure….

None of that fixed it for me. It’s an iOS 17 bug that has something to do with mobile devices, because iPhone 11 to iPad Pro 11” and vice-versa is always declined, but either one to MacBook Pro M2 with Ventura works fine. I’ve tried all online suggestions, including logging out of iCloud on both mobiles, then relogging in, plus hard starts. Oddly, that worked temporarily, but soon quickly returned to “declined.” Also, be warned if you try that because resigning in turned on all my apps to iCoud without my permission and all 7000 of my photos started uploading. Auto iCloud for all apps is bug in itself.

My iPad Pro 10.5 inch with newly-installed 17.0.2 can send to my iPhone 13 Pro Max at 17.0.2, but when I try to send from phone to my iPad it says declined. If I shut off Bluetooth on the iPad and switch it back on, it will receive an Airdrop from my phone. Just once. The second attempt says declined again. If I again shut off Bluetooth on the iPad and switch it back on, it will receive ONE Airdrop. Then the problem returns. Don’t know if this is a clue.

I work for a school system and we have 500 iPad that are all doing the same thing after the IOS 17.0.3 update. Airdrop fail. I tried to use different networks as well. Please fix!!!!!!! We use Airdrop on a daily biases. Thanks

I tried airdropping a file from the machine that was giving me trouble and I selected “bringing devices together“ in general settings on my phone and I tapped my phone against the iMac and it worked!! At first I didn’t feel I would need to do that since I was normally able to airdrop located closely to the computer but I’m very pleased to find that this works for me. How about you?

I never had an issue with airdrop until this latest update. Now when I want to airdrop between my iMac and iPhone I have to turn the phone off then on again before it will work. I've checked all the settings. This is ridiculous that airdrop is an available app; apple has not fixed this bug; and I have to go through additional steps if I want to use airdrop every time. I'm using Messages instead. Get your act together apple!!

My Problem was Solved by Apple --> Here is How: I had a similar problem when AirDropping from an iPhone 11 to a MacBook Air M1 (not working after an iOS17 update), chatting with apple support and escalating to a Senior technical Level and after trying a few things which didn't work at all (Network Reset, VPN apps uninstalled, VPN configurations deleted, Force Hard Reset, Router and Internet device reset, AirDrop Off/On, Wifi Off/On, Bluetooth Off/On, Software Update, ScreenTime->Apps Allowed-> AirDrop Off/On), They found an app (DaVinci Resolve) that was configured in the native Mac Firewall that was creating the problem, so I just block the app in the firewall and it worked properly back again. The only thing that we didn't try (it was the last step) was backing up the phone and restore it to factory settings.

Hope this gives you one more clue on what to look at.

I had been suffering from that same problem until I said enough is enough and this is what changed the game:

On your iPhone, go to -settings>cellular>personal hotspot

-Then activate: Allow others to join

-Also activate : Maximize Compatibility

Extra tip: turn off cellular data when trying to send something to your iPhone

You are all done. Your problem is resolved forever ✨

Don’t talking useless, just report it as a bug on iOS17. I already reset all setting( yes! Reset to a new phone! ) but it still occurs.

please put your top of your iPad/ iPhone towards another top of the iPad/iPhone you want to airdrop and send it using AirDrop,

it works.
