macos 10-13 read older file system like mac os esteso, exfat etc??

I never used a Mac but I have to help a friend who can't read the external hard disk he used on the previous one on a new Mac. what do I need to do to read previous formats? And another question: is there a way on Mac to format a pendrive in a fat exfat ntfs format that can be read by a TV? Thank you

Cannot format new external USB hard drive to APFS iMac running OS 11x, Disk Utility, Toshiba USB external hd, SuperDuper to backup internal hd. I am helping a friend do a complete backup of her main hd using SuperDuper. The external Toshiba drive is new and comes with a PC format, so the drive doesn't appear in SuperDuper when I launch it. I need to format the drive using APFS to perform the backup. I launched Disk Utility and erased the disk, then looked on the drop-down menu for APFS but it wasn't there. The only Mac formatting options were using the old file system. In the menubar, the "format for APFS" was greyed out. I tried rebooting into Safe mode and tried again with Disk Utility but got the same results. I took the new hd home and tried on my Mac mini/OS 10.13.6 but no joy there either. How can I format the disk to the new Apple file system to use it with SuperDuper to make a complete backup? Please help.

format a usb flash drive as fat32 but it defaults to fat16 I am in need of a true Fat32 15gb USB drive. I am told that any USB drive formatted by Disk Utility defaults to Fat16. Don't want and cannot use any USB drive formatted to Fat16. The instructions are clear and precise but Disk Utility has now become so automatic that it's making assumptions I don't want. So, the drive I formatted also has a bunch of other hidden Mac folders and files on it. So, again, I ask respectfully, how do I format a USB drive of 15gb capacity in Fat32 without a bunch of hidden Mac folders/files. Thanks so much.

1. Yes.

2. The Disk Utility can be used to format it as FAT32 or exFAT as is, but not NTFS without additional software.
