Ipad os 17 pdf editor is horrible. I have hundreds of pdf files, and for some reasons for all of them it created an additional layer with absolutely the same markups. But the worst thing is that I cannot even erase the markups which were previously done. When using an eraser tool, they just become faded.
How I am supposed to work with hundreds of my work files now?? It worked normally in iPad is 16.

One more issue is the erase width, it used to be dynamic depending on the pencil inclination, this feature is not working anymore and you have to choose the width from the eraser tool.
I bought an ipad air for the only purpose of correcting construction drawings, doesn't make sense working on it when I keep on losing information and files, deleting hours of work sometimes. This is super frustrating and an urgent fix is needed, or accept ipad returns!
this happens all the time. FIX IT NOW APPLE!!!!
While annotating with the Apple Pencil , the document will crash and reopen, with ALL of the prior annotations missing. The pen will then start in black until it “remembers” that a color was selected and switch back to that on the fly. I cannot erase prior annotations anymore. Documents sometimes seem to have saved correctly but then annotations are missing. Frustrating.
YEP! Apple please fix! This is an essential feature of having a tablet and pencil/stylus and it is utterly unreliable in the new OS. Appreciate anyone seeing this and taking action, really need this solved! Thanks a bunch.
1) Files with blown up sizes - a lecture of 40 slides ~ 400 mb, I'm not kidding
2) Annotating on iPad -> then opening the file on MacBook -> everything drawn with apple pencil is "pixeled" and of very low quality
3) Every edit makes iPad to "save pdf" for 2-3 seconds
And it works too slow.. iPad is practically useless in the middle of the semester
I use Apple’s built-in PDF editing on a regular basis to fill out important forms for insurance. I should say I did until they turned into a broken mess with the release of 17. Unbelievable that this hasn’t been fixed yet.
I’m on iOS 17.2 and found this thread to say I am experiencing exactly this! I just spent a half hour annotating a pdf, I blinked, and everything was lost. It’s almost like it’s restarting the program but not saving work along the way?
Totally agree and totally frustrated, not sure why more aren’t sharing their negative experience since the release of 17. I’ve spent my last 2 days in total frustration as my contract negotiations require revisions, the first time around it’s business as usual (most of the time… with the odd glitch) but I’m suspecting the way the versions are being tracked and able to be recalled(new feature I think) is possibly causing the glitching….. I’ve had to resort to outsourcing the work til a fix is made…. Please apple can you do something, I’d rather spend my dollar on your products which had served me faithfully, than pay adobe or someone else to sort this. I know you can coz my daughter’s MacBook pdf editor can still do it???? Or is that the catch…. But I need to use my pen too… Please help

I rely on this. It should work as intended. I shouldn't have to pay a third party for an app that has functionality native to the device!
For my Italian course I dowloaded all the PDF material and then I make annotations of each class in the corresponding document. This is the first time a PDF turns black and white, loses all the images that originally were on the document, and part of the annotations I made on the first pages are gone, also on the pages were the annotations are gone, there is a blue square with no fill that can be selected, and the only option available for it is Delete, I'm also able to move it, like if it was an image. FYI - I just installed 17.0.3 and I still experience the same set of problems.
Apple really need to sort this! Every time I zoom into a PDF it crashes as soon as I try to annotate it.
I’m having the same issues. Even more, the tags of the *.pdf files appear and disappear randomly. Files in iOS 17 is terrible
I don’t understand how a feature so big can be so broken for so long with no peep of fixing.
Since working with PDF was one of the new flag improvements for IOS 17, I still having a dificult time to accept so many things wrong!
