iOS 17 / PadOS 17 / Mail : no longer remembers previously-used move-to folders

Up until iOS 17, my iPhone and my iPad would remember folders of frequently-moved messages from a known sender. Swipe right on a message and you’d see a folder suggested that was commonly used for that sender.

As of iOS 17, Mail no longer seems to remember previously-used folders, forcing me to navigate through all my folders to find the folder I want to move the message into. Every time.

Seems an unlikely feature to lose. I reported the issue via the Feedback app when I was using the beta, but now that I’m using the production versions I still have the bug but no direct way to further report it.

PS: any idea why Mail is missing from the Applications and Services menu when categorizing this message? All the other apps are there.

I’ve only had my iPhone 15 pro for about 3 weeks. I was having the problem with the Apple Mail app not remembering ‘previously used folders’ to move mail into. Yesterday, I saw where an upgrade to iOS 17.1 fix someone else’s problem. I upgraded from 17.02 to 17.1 last night. Apple’s mail app is now working as before.

Confirming that installing iOS 17.1 seems to have restored this feature for me. Thank you!

It used to be standard practice to wait for the x.1 release of any Apple software before updating. Both iOS and mac OS became reliable enough a few years back that many of us abandoned that practice but this experience has convinced me to reconsider. Mail, in particular, seems to have become riddled with glitchy behavior. For future updates I will be holding back to see what troubles are reported before jumping in for myself or any of my family's devices.

Of course I would love to know what caused this to break so I have some confidence that Apple has sorted out the root problem. The company has not led anyone to expect such transparency (on this or any other features broken by software updates) so we are left to cross our fingers and hope everything goes well for the next OS update.

The issue continues, I have tech support asking for more video recordings of how it should look under my non iOS 17 phone and how it looks with all my iPads that are iOS 17.0.2

i am not sure why they keep  asking as I even pointed my support agent to the numerous forums explaining the issue. I am not sure the engineers know what happened or how to fix. They are again asking for more diagnostic data.

i regret upgrading all the iPads. This is so difficult and time consuming to manually hunt for folders. I think it would be helpful for those on the forum with the issue to get on the phone to apple support like I did and get a tech support agent to do what they ask if me. I think they need more data logs to find solution.

Posting on this site is good but right now per the actual tech support person I have been dealing with for 9 days is more diagnostic logs needed. So I hope anyone with this issue will call apple support and get a tech personnel and give them both images of the issue, recordings and more importantly diagnostic data logs.

Everyone that post me too…great but get on the phone directly to Apple support. Then pair yourself to a tech support agent preferably a supervisor and open a support ticket. Follow your agents request for recordings, images and data logs to help truly get this fix.

in my talk with my higher level support agent, the engineers do not seem to know how to fix as yet.

Hi folks. Ios17.1 arrived this eve (in UK)

Downloaded and this remembering previously moved to folders does seem to have improved - but it’s not 100% in my experience - doesn’t work on all emails that are regularly moved to same folder.

Also, I know it’s not on your Q’s Emilio but I did bring it up previously too …

I still cannot highlight ALL emails that I’ve selected and DELETE ALL.

This is annoying.

Will have to go to Outlook to do it!! 🙄🤷‍♀️

I hope you all have a better experience 🍀🍀
