iOS 17 / PadOS 17 / Mail : no longer remembers previously-used move-to folders

Up until iOS 17, my iPhone and my iPad would remember folders of frequently-moved messages from a known sender. Swipe right on a message and you’d see a folder suggested that was commonly used for that sender.

As of iOS 17, Mail no longer seems to remember previously-used folders, forcing me to navigate through all my folders to find the folder I want to move the message into. Every time.

Seems an unlikely feature to lose. I reported the issue via the Feedback app when I was using the beta, but now that I’m using the production versions I still have the bug but no direct way to further report it.

PS: any idea why Mail is missing from the Applications and Services menu when categorizing this message? All the other apps are there.

Yes, 17.1.1 did fix it and then 17.1.2 screwed it up again. Very annoying.

17.0.2 was initially a release only the iPhone 15s were getting, but now it’s been released for all iPhones and iPads.

The subject of this discussion thread is a behavior that started with iOS17.0 on all iPhones and iPads. As of 17.0.2, the bug (I’m going to call it that, as I can’t believe Apple would kill a feature like this intentionally) persists.

Everyone that post me too…great but get on the phone directly to Apple support. Then pair yourself to a tech support agent preferably a supervisor and open a support ticket. Follow your agents request for recordings, images and data logs to help truly get this fix.

in my talk with my higher level support agent, the engineers do not seem to know how to fix as yet.

I have the same problem with Suggested mail folder disappearing after iOS 17 install on 12 Pro Max. I called Apple and their reply was it will come back in a few days after it learns all over again. She was wrong. When it comes to things like this Apple sucks. I love the equipment but not their unwillingness to admit they don’t know or they screwed up.

Thank you for the suggestion to engage with support ! I will do so …

If this was intentional on the part of Apple … I totally agree that it is a catastrophic improvement. It’s a little thing in the grand scheme of things but it is something I’ve found helpful for many years. I am a heavy email user that typically does my first email scan in the mornings … now it easily doubled the time required time to sort into the appropriate history, priority, follow up and action folders. Each email has to be touched, click move to, search for appropriate folder, etc …. Very very painful.

My thanks to all who are pushing to get this fixed. By the way … this is the very first time I’ve ever used this forum :-)

Yes me too! It’s very annoying. I’m getting RSI from all the scrolling through folders to find the one I want to save the email in!!

I have an iPhone 14 pro on IOS 17.0.2.

Come on Apple. Get this sorted. It’s a retrograde upgrade!

I also hate the iOS contacts format - grey & miserable- or black! How I hate Black!!! & the photo facial recognition thumbnail now only shows initials of each contact instead of picture of the person!!

These awful changes are not progress & are getting very depressing!!

i am finding that if you select move too, that a window or side bar opens and is usually near the top of the folder list, if you go to the top you can do a search for the folder and will bring up that folder to move your mail too. This is not as efficient as the mail folder move too suggestion but saves some time scrolling through all your folders looking for the right one…I would show picture but too much info on my folder names and email name to send the pic…sorry…

hopeful they will fix but then again iBooks creating folder on one device used to show up on all your devices to make finding a pdf easier if stored in that folder across devices…they removed so now if folder created in one device now then only appears on that device…why remove useful features for no reason

I hope Apple are going to sort this fault out soon!

I’ve now realised that this problem with moving emails to folders not being suggested is also now happening on my old iPhone 8 running iOS 16.7 as well as my iPhone 1; Pro on iOS 17.0.2

Very annoying!!

Whilst posting, I’ve also got a glitch with Safari. It won’t open a lot of links including this discussion site. Had to switch to Chrome as default.

what on earth is going on??!!

Rang support but they didn’t seem to know how to resolve it 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️🙄😪

Seems Apple is going backwards!!

I rang Apple Support today about this issue.

Monika did not seem to grasp the issue however many times I explained it, and she had access to my iphone 14 pro too. She just kept telling me I had to select the chosen folder to place the email!!!! Aarghh!!

Hopefully, after a stressful and lengthy conversation we got there in the end and I insisted that she made sure that this problem of folder selection not being remembered & suggested from previous emails/selections was escalated to senior mgt.

Another glitch I had was Safari not connecting to browsers or allowing log in when clicking on a link to a website, such as my car service garage check in/progress of service; also trying to log in to this site too and a few others.

I seem to have resolved it by following a resolution on the Apple Support app >

I unselected BLOCK COOKIES in Settings/Safari/Advanced. Yay! At last!

This was another issue I'd trying talking to Support about but the only suggestion they had was to completely restore my iphone!

I'm also very unhappy about the new Contacts format of grey/black background!

Anyone else?

Feeling very disappointed with Apple of late. All this is so time consuming and stressful!

Hope the Apple developers get to read all this!
