Can't get photos from iPhone (iOS 17) to Mac (Ventura 13.5.2)

My phone's photos are transferred to MacOS' Photos App, but since the last updates I can't get Photos to bring them.

It either stays on "Please unlock iPhone" or if I unlock, `Preparing to import from "iPhone"`.

I left it there for an hour or so.

There's no iCloud Sync, it's offline.

Yes, I rebooted both.

Yes, I tried to update everything again.

I found a fix which has worked for my iMac Pro & MacBook Pro after updating to IOS 17.2 the new default settings in the photos app under settings for transfer to your Mac or PC sets to automatic which seems to not work & throw systems into an endless loop .you need to reset it to keep Orginal format restart both phone & Mac & after a few minutes it works mind you I have about 80 gigs of photos & videos on phone so that may be the minute delay. I switched back to automatic & once again death loop. See below I informed apple support also As I was working with tech but they did not have an answer when I contacted them. but said they had a team working on this known issue . PS IOs 17.21 did not fix this issue for me as some others indicated

Apple's IOS Sonoma 14.0 is the fix for my MacBook Pro!

Note: Normally, you would expect to get a notification a NEW IOS is available. In this case, I did not. I opened a support ticket, and they had me go to SETTINGS>GENERAL> SOFTWARE UPDATE. It discovered the update, and mounting/accessing my photos from my iPhone running IOS 17.0.2 works well, with some additional features noted when you open iPhotos. Be patient; resyncing and enabling these new features takes some time.

I am running:

  • Photos 7.0
  • iphone 12 pro max 17.1
  • ios 12.7.1 on a Macbook Pro (13-inch, 2016)

my work around was to go to my iphone, albums, scroll to bottom of the albums to Hidden Photos folder, click on it and it used Face ID to unlock. I kept it like that on myu iphone and plugged it into my MacBook Pro. Waited, waited and waited some more (about 3 mins) and then BAM!!! i had my photos there A full year's worth.

I am then downloading about 1000 at a time so as not to overload everything.

Hope the above works for you.

But most of all I hope apple fixes this obviously glitch.

I had the same issue after iOS 17 (currently iOS 17.0.3) with Monterey. Tried a bunch of different things (worked for sign other with same iOS and macOS) and finally what appears to have worked for me is to unlock hidden photos and leave that album unlocked and open while I plug in the phone and open image capture. That was never an issue with iOS 16 though so it’s confusing why this changed anything.

YUP !!! Me Too!

With Sonoma 14.3 on my MacMini M2, my iphone 13P (with iiOS 17.3) all of a sudden Photos will not import photos. About a month ago (I was on iOS 17), when I did a series of imports, it stopped at some point (it seems about the time the phone went into sleep mode).

My normal practice is to have Photos App delete from the iPhone, those the photos that were imported imported; in these instances, while it did import some, those were not deleted. I spoke with Apple Care, and at that time it would not do that error (of course!). And the fellow there made it sound like he had never heard of this happening; "Photos is supposed to continue working even as the iPhone thinks about going into sleep mode". Cut to yesterday, I had 800 photos to import; not a one went. I tried with 230; nada.

It kept going into a loop, as another has stated, "Preparing to import..." , the cursor then jumps up to the top of the side-bar; nothing has happened. Reboot both - same thing.

Today to trouble-shoot I tried to import from my iPhone 8 (iOS 16.7.4); it worked fine!!

Come on, APPLE Corps!!

Now it has jumped to this annoying state. Anyone else run into this? Ideas? solutions?
