Where is the dock in watchOS 10?

What happened to DOCK, which gave me quick access to the 10 apps I selected and use most, in Watch OS 10? Also, how is pushing the side button easier or better than a quick swipe up to access the Control Panel?

So the swipe up gives you the apps, and pushing the Crown gives you the apps. Both give you the same function?

No.

  • Swipe up gives you the widget stack.
  • Pushing the crown once gives you the apps.
  • Pushing the crown twice gives you the app switcher (analogous to the Dock on previous versions).
  • Pushing the bottom below the crown brings up the Control Center.

Probably so - Apple is a bit arrogant when it comes to doing what their Users want. I love my watch but I love it a bit less now!

And they always have been. It's why lots of people won't buy their products. But, I also find that keeping in mind that technology is going to keep changing no matter who makes it and that I will need to adapt is a helpful mindset.

Smart Stack is only useful for a handful of apps and widgets, mostly Apple creations. My security system, my smart lights, my thermostat, and many more - not an option on Smart Stack.

I was making a suggestion to someone (not you) who specifically mentioned Heart Rate. As was Dah-veed. Not everything will work for everyone (just like not everything in watchOS 9 worked for everyone).

Thanks that helped and I have added the Heart Rate app to stack.
I'm in the Apple Heart Study and also use the Blood Oxygen and ECG regularly, however,
I don't see them listed in the all apps list. Any thoughts on, can I add those two also?

I admit I haven't had a chance to play with the Smart Stack very much so, I'm not really sure what widgets are available. A quick search would suggest not. I think it's definitely a work in progress and my not solve all of your issues.

Keep letting Apple know your thoughts on the whole thing:

I have to agree that the missing dock is an issue for me. I can’t find my O2 sensing. I have a tendancy toward blood clots so this is the main feature that made me upgrade from my last apple watch. Heart rate and voice app icons are almost identical, so of no use. I would like the dock feature restored

I also can’t seem to shut the watch down now. If I do the same shut down method, there is a very small option to the upper right to power off. It doesn’t operate at all. The other buttons do. Other apps work in that extent of the display. I believe it is also a broken feature.

Apple appears to have done a product-wide update to their whole catalog. It seems to be aimed at interoperability… which isn’t a bad thing. I like some of what seems to be coming from it. However, I have a lot of broken appliances.. especially on Apple Homekit. Lights no longer working, my garage door control is broken, my apple TV has streaming services that are now acting buggy.

Please keep rolling patches out. Most of these products are pretty solid most of the time.

As a member of the group of users who is beta seed-testing Apple operating system software (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS and audioOS), I know that Apple spends months updating and testing the operating software before releasing an upgrade to the public.

These same beta seeds are available to all of the 3rd-party developers who offer their apps & games through the various App Stores. It is the responsibility of a developer to update/upgrade their apps & games to operate correctly with new Apple device operating software. Apple can't make a new OS work with literally millions of 3rd-party apps & games.

If you have 3rd-party devices and apps that aren't functioning as expected after you have upgraded an Apple device's operating system, your first step in troubleshooting the issue is to check to see if the developer has issued an update/upgrade to the app that runs their device or their app that streams media.

Also, if your devices, such as lights, require an electronic bridge connected to your home Wi-Fi network to function properly with Homekit and the Home app, you should check to see if there is a firmware update that needs to be installed.

I agree. I want my Dock back where I decide which apps I want to see most frequently. It is now very inconvenient.

Apple, we are all disappointed! I could no longer recommend Apple Watch to others and I loved it previously, before this update.

And no, "we" are not "all" disappointed. I have absolutely no problems with the swtich. I suspect the vast majoriy of people don't care much one way or the other. Or was that the royal we?

The WHOLE reason I have an Apple Watch is because it lets me find my phone so easily with a shortcut in the DOCK!I have ADHD and lose my phone CONSTANTLY ! I don’t have the attention span to press the wheel on my watch, go through all the apps, find the “Find my devices” and not accidentally hit “ Find my items”, and then have to “find my phone” within it, then hit “play sound”. I haven’t been able to get through all those steps one single time today . I was getting ready to upgrade my watch, but now I’m getting ready to sell it.

Apple might revert in their next release, after all, they have had enough flak by now.

I can't recall the number of times a little grumbling has influenced Apple to revert a feature in any device OS.

This thread is called a honey pot. We don't know for sure, but I doubt Apple engineers bother to look at these. They are already way down the road working on versions of OSs three and four versions ahead.

BTW, the next release of watchOS is being beta-tested as we speak. I haven't seen anything in the tech news that anything has been reverted back. You can join the public beta testing and see for yourself! To beta test watchOS, you must also beta test iOS.
