As a member of the group of users who is beta seed-testing Apple operating system software (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS and audioOS), I know that Apple spends months updating and testing the operating software before releasing an upgrade to the public.
These same beta seeds are available to all of the 3rd-party developers who offer their apps & games through the various App Stores. It is the responsibility of a developer to update/upgrade their apps & games to operate correctly with new Apple device operating software. Apple can't make a new OS work with literally millions of 3rd-party apps & games.
If you have 3rd-party devices and apps that aren't functioning as expected after you have upgraded an Apple device's operating system, your first step in troubleshooting the issue is to check to see if the developer has issued an update/upgrade to the app that runs their device or their app that streams media.
Also, if your devices, such as lights, require an electronic bridge connected to your home Wi-Fi network to function properly with Homekit and the Home app, you should check to see if there is a firmware update that needs to be installed.
