iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

Actually, I too thought that this was monitored by Apple and they could address things posted in here, so a sincere thank you for posting the proper link to address it with them directly.

I have just logged my comment outlining why I would really like my call history separated from my families. I am unsure why apple would expect children to have their own apple id. Of course it is shared with their parents. Hopefully they will address it.

Children under 13 are required to have their own ID, set up using family sharing.

One of the primary drivers of this is that it is against the law to track certain activity and information regarding children.

The only way to set up a child ID is using family sharing.

If you are sharing an ID and they are effectively using your ID, that’s actually a crime.

Because of the way the law is written, you don’t actually have the legal right to consent for them to use it or for anyone to track their activity online.

Your comment about children is concerning. Children should NEVER share an adult's Apple ID. You are in reality putting your children at risk and Apple specifically says children under 13 are REQUIRED to have their own unique Apple ID. Then you should be using Family Sharing and Parental Controls to even further protect your children. Please do the right thing for your kids.

Canada’s guidelines for online privacy are somewhat weaker than those in the US.

https://www.priv.gc.ca/en/privacy-topics/technology/online-privacy-tracking-cookies/tracking-and-ads/gl_ba_1112/

However, if your children under 13 use your ID to access web sites hosted in the US, US law is still being violated.

I’m not trying to accuse you of committing a crime. I’m merely attempting to educate you (and others who may see this thread) as to one of the reasons sharing an ID is a bad idea.

The bottom line is if you want to stop your call logs from being shared, then stop sharing an ID.

This is the issue we are talking about

i have 2 iphones, same ID

one for my private life

other i keep it for my own business

since this IOS 17

calls stared to merge

the funny thing is some people talking about sharing IDs

we are talking about im using IPHONE since 2009 2 phones. No problem at all

and now some people started to talk about this that its a normal thing !!!!

can someone get this Msgs to apple !?

I had the same problems with my family's iPhones once upgraded to iOS 17. I tried all the previous options like turning Phone off on iCloud Settings and so on. Turning off Phone on iCloud stopped voicemail merging but not call history. Before upgrading the 3rd iPhone to iOS17 I noticed that Passwords and Keychain was off on iCloud. After the Upgrade it was automatically turned on. So I went back to the other iPhones and turned it off on both of them. Turning that option off, automatically deleted all the call history since it started merging and it hasn't since merged or synced any call history on our devices. Just thought I would share if someone is still looking for a solution.

And then another one for my iPad and another one for my MacBook? How do I get my AirPods to work on multiple devices I own? There’s nothing wrong with using the same ID on multiple devices you own. That’s the purpose of it.

so weird that nobody can answer that simple question about the phone switch in settings. From day one I was told this was for technical help and yet nobody has the answer. I mean I know what all the other switches do. Why is this one such an enigma?

I think I have found a solution. I have two phones, one personal and one for work. Recently, my personal phone started showing both phones’ calls in my call log. My personal phone had iCloud turned on for “phone.” My work phone had it turned off. I turned it off on my personal phone and I think that has prevented my work phone call history from being shown on it.

Me too!!

Even with update 17.2, and everything that has been suggested. Still, my calls show up on both phones. Really!! Is this something anyone wants?? I will have to wait until I retire and send my business phone back to my employer ( I recently decided I wanted a personal phone ) didn't know this was going to be an issue. From what I have been reading, many people have 2 phones with the same Apple ID. No problems before IOS 17. I could create a new Apple ID for my business phone. What a pain!!

You might want to change "Sort by" to "Oldest."

Before Apple updated the forum software, threads didn't always appear in chronological order, but when forum software moved the order around, things were still fairly logical and easy to follow.

Now it seems like half the time, things get out of order at the drop of a hat.
