iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

Please show me one place where they say that they do not want people to use the same Apple ID on two phones. Sure, they recommend against sharing your Apple ID with other people, but this is not the same thing at all. The change is actually the result of the new voicemail features, which requires calls to go through the cloud first so it can be filtered. This is the result. According to Apple's tech support, that's why it's there. It has nothing to do with them trying to stop people from sharing IDs on two phones that they own. They have never said that. As a matter of fact, at one point they said that is what customers wanted. You're suggesting that this is Apple's way of trying to disuade people from using two phones with the same Apple ID, ie a punishment. Yet, sharing an Apple ID is the only way to use things like AirPods on two devices, or AirTags, or or or....

Still though, let's keep this technical. What is the point of the Phone slider in the iCloud settings?

Nobody is arguing their point with you anymore than you with them. We are simply pointing out that your logic is flawed and seemingly inccorect. It’s not an attack. We are simply asking if this, why that. I think you know that sharing an Apple ID with someone is not even remotely close to having two devices with the same Apple ID. In fact, that is the very point of the ID.

Maybe we can just focus on technical things here instead. Like, perhaps what the phone slider is for in the cloud settings. I’d love to get your take on that.

Someone please fix this. I have a work phone and personal phone. I don’t need them both to be connected.

You are asking only other users to fix something not one person here can fix. Apple doesn't participate in or read these posts.

You can let apple know by using the link which has been posted over and over throughout this thread.

So, from what I’ve found… turning off the “live voicemail” option on both phones might fix this. I’ve tried and tested it, the calls logs didn’t unmerge but it seems like calls are only being logged on their specific device moving forward. It’s only been an hour since we’ve tested it. Fingers Crossed.

Reading thru this posting, I see some people claim this is how it should have worked all along and support not having multiple devices on the same ID.

Others label this change initiated by the iOS 17 Update as a BUG.

I would like to have a definitive answer from Apple explaining, IF this is new functionality, why they decided to abandon decades of configurable sharing between devices using the same AppleID. I get the fact that newer functionality labeled Family Sharing inherently conflicts with the historical functionality to which apple users are accustomed. Changing existing functionality should benefit users rather than create the mass confusion as this change has caused.

It makes no sense why my call history now shows me calling myself and missing some of those same calls and all the other nonsensical entries that are created. I can see no reason for forcing a phone number's history log to show calls from other phone numbers.

I am now forced to create a WORK AROUND (multiple AppleIDs) just to see who called my phone number.

I seem to remember I would have to use a different credit card for each AppleID? If that is still the case, it will create even more problems for users.

I have a temporary solution, I posted the steps, and it works with keeping the same ID, with no call sync. You can call apple but IMO it’s a waste of time, I don’t feel Like I got anywhere when I called.

Apple does not see this as an issue or it would of been changed already, there are lots of “BUGs” or negative changes in this IOS 17 update. The lack of a map layer in the text app find location is cheap looking and a step backwards to what it was in previous IOS versions.

This user forum is not what I thought it was, I find it hard to believe that no apple reps creep this forum like other forums I am a member of. I even seen Apple recommended on one post on another thread on here.

The Apple employees who manage the forum, the Hosts, are the ones who label posts "Apple recommended". Their job for Apple is to make sure the folks participating in the forum obey the rules and that the forum runs properly. What they simply do not have time to do is gather feedback or suggestions to pass on to the product teams.

Why should I had my phone log mixed with my daughter’s since the last update IOS 17? If I want to do it I would do it myself! I want this problem fixed because nobody from Apple asked me for the consent to do it.What is this mess? This is a clear sign of weakness from IOS sharing call logs to other devices no matter it is in the same cloud or not. This is going to lead to other leaks in the future…a “general cloud “ that will feed authorities with information.I want to know exactly who did it ( person, department, name ) and why . What’s the base of this decision ? Who implemented this and based on what exact purpose? Is IOS as reliable as it used to be? Are we witnessing the end of a security era for Apple ? What’s going on?

I am waiting for your response asap. Thanks!
