iPhone call history shared between devices after iOS 17 Update

on my primary device I have iCloud -> contacts turned off, also handoff is turned off on both devices.

Before iOS 17.0, each of my 2 devices has its private call log & contacts.

After iOS 17.0 on both devices, I started to see the call history of both devices on my primary device.

Since the update, I have attempted all the techniques to stop the call log from my husband's phone appearing on my phone. It is very annoying not to be able to look at your previous calls to determine who called you instantly without questioning whether the number called you or your husband. I hope that Apple listens and is able to correct whatever was turned on or at least allow us to disable call logs from other devices.

1. Well said.
it is obvious to many Apple customers that either:
There is a bug in the icloud functionality or

Nope. There's NO bug. This is how Apple intends it to work. And waiting for Apple to fix what they don't believe is broken, won't get you anywhere.

There is ONLY one sure to stop the shared call logs if they bother you. STOP SHARING AN APPLE ID.

I have recently called Apple several times and have spoken to different techs at different levels of seniority. NONE of them stated it is working as intended. They all told me how and where to submit my feedback and concerns. I did so.

Plus, I’m waiting to hear back from someone who is on Xmas vacation who I am confident will be a big help in finding out more about this issue.

I wanted to share my case as well.

Facts as of 1/2/2024 11:00 AM:

iOS Verion 17.2.1 on iPhone 14 Pro Me iPhone 15 Pro Wife running iOS 17.1.1

iCloud Drive Off both iPhones

iCloud Phone Off both iPhones

iCloud Contacts Off both iPhones

Live Voice Mail Off both iPhones

As of 11:11 I am receiving my wife's missed calls and voice mails. There is a "clue" when I call my wife's cell number the photo associated with my Apple ID profile is displayed. This suggests the issue may be related to shared Apple IDs vs iCloud accounts.

Totally agree - this update has caused so many issues. Along with this issue, since the upgrade many of the login info has changed on many of our apps. We have 3 phones on the family plan. For Example, my Southwest and Delta app changed to my son's login info on my phone and another example, my wife's Chix fil a app changed to my user name on her phone. This is just to name a few.

It doesn't seem like anything was kept separate and many were randomly changed. It is a pain to have to go in and change everything. Has this happened to any one else?

If you are sharing an Apple ID, passwords store on the phone can also be shared. Yet another reason not to share an Apple ID.

I was facing this „unwanted“ syncing as well and already gave up as none of the suggestions here worked for me.

after having turned off all possible iCloud services (iMessage, FaceTime) and after deleting my company phone number from the iCloud security settings, I noticed that my contact card in the address book (which is still being synced via iCloud) contained both my private and company phone numbers.

This might be a coincidence but after deleting my company phone number from my contact card, the call history syncing stopped. (at least for now)

maybe this did the trick and someone can confirm?

I have been reading several Community posts about the call history voice mail history issue post upgrade to IOS 17.x. My wife just texted me a confidential work-related voice mail which landed on her iPhone.

The next thing I will try is to remove my wife as an "emergency contact". I will keep everyone posted in case this works. It would be interesting to know if those observing the "bug" have the other iPhone owner set up as an emergency contact. We share an APPLEID and iCloud ID with my son who is not experiencing the call history and voice mail sharing issue. He is NOT set up as an emergency contact. This is worth a try.
