word processing for Mac Book Pro

I recently acquired MacBook running Catalina. No word processing program included.

Can anyone recommend a word processing for my Mac?

That is unlikely. You should have Pages, already installed.

If asked nicely, it can read many Microsoft word files.

Softmaker Office 2024 for Mac. Free trial then paid or subscribe option. Cataline or later.
