why did "Terminal" show up on my MacBook Pro dock?

All of a sudden a black square "Terminal" showed up on my MacBook Pro dock. I don't know what it is. I don't share my computer with anyone. It is not on a network. It should not be accessible to anyone else.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.7

If there is a dot below that Terminal Dock icon, then press the option key and right-click to select Force Quit. If the icon remains, then again and with the option key, right-click on that Dock Terminal application icon and then select Options > Remove From Dock.

The Terminal is a viewport to the underlying UNIX operating system below the Finder. Something that you installed, or ran launched the Terminal application for some unknown reason. The first sentence should have removed it from your Dock. If it comes back, reply here again.
