Just downloaded 17.0. I want to receive sound and badge notification only when I receive a text message. I do not want banners or them showing up on my lock screen. It seems like if I uncheck all of the boxes I just get badge and I cannot receive sound notification. Again, I just want to get sound notification and a badge indication when I receive a text message. Please help.

We can help with Messages.
You can manage notifications for Messages in Settings > Messages > Notifications.
If you uncheck the types of Alerts for Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners, sounds will still play in accordance with your sound settings and the selected option under Sounds on the screen.
If you're not hearing the sounds play, then makes sure you have your Ringer and Alerts volume set correctly and do not have your iPhone set to silent:
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker
