iOS 17 voicemail issues

After updating both phones to iOS 17, my wife's voicemails are showing up on my phone and mine are showing up on hers. If I delete a voicemail on my phone, it deletes that voicemail on her phone as well. Same if she deletes one on her phone, it goes away on my phone. We share an Apple ID but this has never been an issue before. we've turned both phones off and back on but the problem persists.

Is there a solution or do we have to wait for an iOS17.1 update?

Hi SamES-335,

We'd like to share some suggestions to help with this situation you have with your Voicemail. Sharing an Apple ID is not advised as this can create several continuity issues. With this update Live Voicemail has been introduced and details about this can be found in Use Live Voicemail on your iPhone - Apple Support having this off may help but if not and with Voicemail being carrier related, you may need to speak with them.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

As described above, after updating both phones to iOS 17.1.1, my wife's voicemails are showing up on my phone and mine are showing up on hers. If I delete a voicemail on my phone, it deletes that voicemail on her phone as well. Same if she deletes one on her phone, it goes away on my phone. We share an Apple ID but this has never been an issue before. We contacted our carrier (Verizon) who is unable to assist due to this being an Apple issue. We created an Apple ID for my wife - that solved the voice mail problem, but led to a number of new problems (photos, music, find my, etc. no longer sync, iCloud backups of my wife's phone no longer occur). I looked into family sharing, but that doesn't allow sharing of photos. There must be a solution other than to not share an Apple ID. Before the software upgrade, all was perfectly fine and my iMac, MacBook Air, and both iPhones were all in sync.

I have this same issue and trying the suggestion above hasn't fixed the issue. I have never had this problem and have had an iPhone since the iPhone 4 many years ago. So this is a software issue that needs to be fixed. While yes I am sharing my apple ID with my wife, that's not usual at all. But we have our own phone numbers and devices and thus I can't possibly fathom why this is happening other than it's an IOS 17 issue. Please Apple look at this again and fix. I have to imagine there are thousands and thousands of people with the same issue. Also this is not a carrier issue but a device and software issue.

This is not an acceptable response. I can’t even imagine how many people share an account with their spouse and family. Recommending everyone set up individual IDs is ridiculous. Secondly, using the family option is worthless when it comes to photos and sharing of other information. Before you put updates out or new functions, why don’t you look into the metrics of how many people will be affected negatively by your changes.
