If the battery drains too fast after an update, see all the replies to:
Battery Drain since watchos 7.4 - Apple Community
WatchOS 7.5 battery drain - Apple Community
FWIW, in some cases, unpairing the watch, completely erasing it, then pairing and restoring the backup will resolve the battery draining issue after an update. (Simply unpairing and pairing again may not work.)
Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support
Also, some people have found that simply waiting a few days after an update resolves the battery draining problem.

This seems to be an application compatibility issue with the new software upgrade. I had to remove two applications before the issue was fixed. The two applications which I removed are MobeyFaces and Weather Live. Once I removed these two applications, my watch has returned back to its normal battery consumption rate and I can go two days without charging my watch battery.
The same thing happened to us! We had our phones updated with the latest iOS, unpaired the watch and paired again, ran diagnostics and spoke to Apple Support. Their advice was to send it in for repair!! Nothing wrong with the watch, it’s less than 1 year old. Restring my watch fixed the problem. History repeats itself - this isn’t the first time an iOS update caused the same problem and a reset is necessary to remedy the glitch. Come on Apple!! You can do better!!
A few days ago I followed advice from the forum and removed third party watch apps like Moby. Different screen face apps removed and it appears to be back to normal.
I recommend trying this and then 1 by one you could add apps back in to see how they work.
Good luck!
So I followed advice from other users and deleted apps like Moby and other watch face apps and so far my watch is at 70% after using it for 8 hours. Major improvement, unless I want to use those apps
I unpaired my watched and re-paired it as a new watch, not a backup from existing. After a couple days, back to normal battery life.
Yes. There is something wrong with the update. Apple may have turned on certain features with the update. I had noticed that Siri was turning on when the watch was facing upward. I turned that feature off. I will look through the Apple watch app closer to see what else is running at a later date.
After full wipe and re paired with phone the battery is back to what it was. The workout app and notification screens are still like something an 8 year old created. Why would a small x button be a good addition to a watch app and why do i have to close my last workout when creating a new one.
I tried shutting off my watch to see if it did anything. For me after the third shut down and restart is when my battery life went back to where it was before the update. I turned it off on different days but finally the third time did the trick for me.
Following others advice here, I deleted all the apps I could access off my watch.
That worked, two hours in on 100% I am at 95%.
No idea which app or apps are the problem. I lost over 25% just deleting them before doing a full charge.
Apple is not what it use to be. They need a refresh of leadership.
I turned off optimized charging. Let it die completely and then charged it. It took most of the day to charge which is unusual but so far it’s holding up so far and it’s been two hours. But it’s still saying I haven’t charged it since Sunday
Hi all,
I have same issue regarding my Apple Watch. All started it from update to ios 10.1, I have 89% battery health and I have done this:
So to let the watch working I need to lay the watch down next to phone and don’t touch.
I have around 3 hours battery life when I have fully charged the watch. This is something Apple needs to fix. My wife have same series of watch but with e-sim and that is working fine.
Best regards, Kristjan
Absolutely agree. Doing nothing but wearing it, watch now runs out of battery by 5 or 6 in the afternoon. Has always well maintained a charge for the full day before. Experiencing the same problem with my iPhone 12 Pro as well after update. I expect better from Apple
Loved my watch before this update and now starting to hate it. Battery drains by 6pm, extra clicks required to do anything in the fitness app and some of the colours are like my 8 year old daughter chose them. Is it possible to go back to previous os?
I’ve been working with Apple support for about 2 1/2 weeks now trying to give them screenshots of my watch during the 3 1/2 to 4 hours it stays charged. This new OS is killing my battery life. So ******. We’ve run diagnostics on the watch so the hardware is fine. It has to be the software. 10.0.2 can’t come soon enough.
