After iOS 17 update we are receiving each other’s voicemails on our iPhone

Why are my husband and I receiving each other’s voicemails?

After the last update 17 on our iPhone 14 we have been receiving each other’s voicemails. Call forwarding is off and live voicemail is off on both phones.

We’ve shared an Apple ID for more than a decade with no problems - this started after doing the latest update

I encountered same problem. Tried to work it thru wth apple

we share Apple ID and was trying to avoid changing ID on a phone

ultimately called Verizon who suggested reset of network settings of phones, both mine and my husbands. This appears to have fixed problem

My husband and I have shared an apple id for many many years and never had an issue until this update. I tried a few things I google but nothing is working. At this point, it is difficult and challenging for one of us to create a new apple id. Just saying.

It is mind boggling as each phone has a unique identity established by its respective phone number. There is no reason that any communication meant for one phone number should be sent to a different phone number.

This is different than all previous IOS versions. This is a conscious choice by Apple.

Apple must stop the access to spouses' phone calls!!! Do not say it is because share an Apple ID and should use family sharing! Family sharing does not work. Apple must change family sharing so that contacts and calendar are shared live/in real time. Downloading periodically the phone book does NOT work. I have criticised this forever. Listen to your clients. A family of five needs calendar and contact live/in real time.

Wonder how many would have stayed with IOS16 if they knew the changes being made in this area with 17. I think I would have stayed as I have not seen enough “good” stuff in 17 to offset this problem.

I never saw any announcements from Apple about this change.

Troubleshooting Voicemail After a New iOS Upgrade:

Contact your Carrier, as they are the one who provide you with the service of Voicemail. Having just been released, it may be bug that they are working on with Apple at this very moment.

From a couple of recent posts it sounds as some are getting actual calls on the wrong phone. If this is true then it is a major issue.

For me, I am getting a combined call log (minor issue, just an inconvenience) and a combined voice mail (can cause confusion).

As far as Apple designing things this way, just look at iMessage. You have the option to select the number that you receive messages for. To me that is proof that Apple designed the system for multiple phone numbers for one Apple ID.

People are saying use Family Share but that will not work for me. I need to share the contact list, the calendar, and photos. Apples web site promotes Family Share by saying it allows you to share Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple News+, Apple Arcade, and Apple Card. Can also share iTunes, Apple Books, and App Store purchases, an iCloud storage plan, and a family photo album. Only thing on there is a family photo album (an album, not all photos).

One interesting thing is that it is an occasional recent call log entry or voice mail that is bleeding over and not all of them.

So many people respond that the solution is simple, “stop sharing IDs”

what these people fail to acknowledge is that most of us have shared an ID for decades. When I started, it was common to have a family ID.

Now, Apple has changed. And the latest update intermixes data.

we have choices to send iMessages, emails, to specific devices and always have. Somehow, Apple decided this choice doesn’t apply to phone messages for some reason.

I’ve exhausted all options, the solution is separate IDs.

don’t ignore the problem or frustration that this creates even if the solution is simple

Dogcow, the way you are defending Apple I would think you work for them. Everything worked fine until 17. So Apple made some type of change.

As has been said, if we could share a contact list and calendar in real time I would happily get two IDs.

Just a thought, can you be logged into two IDs at the same time?
