iPhone photos and messages not indexing after iOS 17 Update

After the iOS 17 update, and the first patch, (17.0.1) my photos are no longer indexed properly. For example, if I just try to search for 9/21, I get five random photos from different dates. PLEASE HELP!

I have restarted the device multiple times and have also learned that it may take up to one week to re-index after the update, but I don’t think that’s the problem.

Per the Apple help desk this is known issue. Even the person troubleshooting my issue had this exact problem. We just need more people to report it so that they prioritize fixing in their next release. Frustrating that this is happening still after several updates.

YES! I’m so glad I saw your post and knew there was an update. It fixed it for me also. Update to the new 17.1, I wasn’t alerted there was an update from Apple so you may have to go to general and updates and manually check. Hopefully it fixes it for all of us. I was relieved to know there were so many others like me that missed that feature!

Mine is also broken after upgrades, still broke with 17.1. iPhone won’t sync photos or align with iCloud. But the iPad is working fine, same upgrade processes same accounts…my iCloud has 19000 photos, suddenly my phone just sat there and deleted down to 7000 photos and is frozen with various sync messages…sync up, sync down, phone to hot, optimizing system, restoring from backup, etc…messages and photo count keep varying but no sync is happening.. processor and network traffic are low, phone gets hot anytime I change any setting

Just came across this thread as I am having the same issue; I only bought the phone a couple of weeks ago and it seems this issue is still not fixed. Since I use photos for work and have always loved how easy Apple makes it to find old photos by searching for a specific date, location or simply a search term, I am not happy that I can't do this anymore (I have 100k photos in the Cloud, which I am paying for)

Not sure if my problem is a result of the same thread....Trying to download photos from iPhone SE to PC but instead of recognizing "new" photos the phone wants to download all photos (about 3500), calling them all "new" photos.

Is there a setting I can change to prevent this from happening? Don't want to download multiple copies of all my photos.

Thanks for any help
