CarPlay iOS17 not working

So since I did the iOS 17 update, CarPlay no longer works. I have reset the settings on my phone, my car, went through every step I found online and I have installed the most recent bug fix. So I am at a loss and I am assuming when my iPhone 15 Pro Max gets here today that I will still have the problem

Okay, so far on iPhone 13 Pro Max after iOS 17, 17.1.2 and 17.2 updates CarPlay doesn't work on 2021 SYNC3 Mustang, 2024 Opel SUV Hybrid in Europe, and on external screen device link with bluetooth. I can pair, verify, load data, but CarPlay never launches on vehicles. The first two say connected the third never indicates it's connected. Tried factory resets on all vehicles and external devices and clearing of CarPlay and Bluetooth Connections on iPhone, but still no CarPlay. Reset iPhone network connections, changed network access setting on iPhone as directed. Literally nothing works. So, I installed my wife's Apple 14 Pro with some version of iOS 16? on it and magically everything works on the same CarPlay devices.

So that essentially proves this is caused by iOS 17. If I had an iOS 16 backup, I'd revert, but unfortunately backup on iOS 16 started failing which is why I upgraded to iOS 17. It appears that Apple stopped testing software before launching, we're all beta testers.

Also have loaded latest firmware multiple times, so that's not the problem either.

I've also tried changing cables but that shouldn't have affected my wireless CapPlay connection device, so still iOS 17 issue.

I literally had to pull up an old iPhone mount and install on the front dash so I can navigator or borrow my wife's phone.

So Apple, please fix defective CarPlay on iOS 17 so we can stop wasting time and drive safety with handsfree.

I am having this same issue with my 2023 accord. Mine worked perfectly fine when I started driving yesterday. Stopped for gas and boom. No longer connecting car play. That was with my iPhone 12 Pro Max which was on iOS 17 since it released. I did basic TSing and still nothing. My iPhone 15 was at home waiting for me so I activated it. Tried again in the car and NOTHING! This is extremely aggravating as I have a similar issue with my 2016 accord coupe.

MY STORY AND RESOLUTION: I upgraded my iPhone 12 Pro Max to iPhone 15 Pro Max and CarPlay worked fine with my new 2023 Honda CR-V straight away. I had installed iOS Version 17.1.2 a couple days ago and it worked yesterday morning. Then, when at work Focus came on unexpectedly where I was at work and said it comes on when at that location (don't remember ever configuring that!). When I got back in my car, it no longer worked. I reset everthing - removed the connections from my Honda Infotainment configuration, removed the Bluetooth devce on my phone, rebooted my phone. Same. Over and over a couple times. But here is what I think may have led to the resolution - maybe settings in these features were forced by 17.1.2? Maybe they were improperly handled when Focus activated?

MY RESOLUTION: I first made sure the Settings / Screen Time / Content & Privacy Restrictions / Allowed Apps / CarPlan was ON (why was it turned OFF?). Then I went to Settings / Face ID & Password / Accessories was turned OFF (so it would not force me to look at my phone each time I entered my car and wanted it to auto-connect without having to authenticate with Face recognition each time.) Now it works each time. Go figure.

Since the 17 update I’m having problems with both Siri and Apple Car Play. Siri mispronounces things she said correctly previously. Car play is now terribly frustrating. Siri won’t search the web, won’t voice to text, she glitches and stutters. When she reads texts aloud she’s competing with the music volume so you can’t hear anything (previously the music volume would lower while Siri is speaking). It’s just awful. Basically all hands free features I enjoyed while driving are now gone. I also have a 2023 Lexus, and Lexus says it’s an Apple issue. And multiple calls to Apple have not been helpful. I have the 13 Pro Max. I’m getting frustrated to the point where I want to walk away from Apple after a decade because they don’t seem to care about this issue and it’s a HUGE inconvenience for their customers.

This actually worked! I just bought the 15pro and i thought if i just plug in the USB-C charger it would automatically connect my car play like my iPhone 11. But all it did was charging my phone. I have a 2019 Honda civic and all i did was reset the infotainment system. Once reset, it prompted me to enable CarPlay and also enable CarPlay while phone is locked!

Thank you 💜

Hi folks, yesterday I bought a new cable at the local Apple Store and all is working fine. It had been frustrating, especially since the old cable worked fine with my iPhone 7+ but not with the 13. Obviously with the latter, the old cable had trouble trading data. I think the shorter cables might be more prone to bending and damage. Anyway, glad I have a solid fix.

Hi, I solved the problem, at least for me. I have a 2019 Chevrolet Impala and an iPhone 13 Pro Max recently updated to iOS 17.4.1. I had the same problem, CarPlay would not work after the update. I could not get any display from my phone applications on the infotainment screen. I tried rebooting the system, etc. Nothing worked.

But an online post said to try disconnecting the VPN. I did that and it worked. It appears that CarPlay will not start if you have your iPhone on a VPN when you first connect, but if the VPN is turned off, it will work. It will also work if you turn the VPN on after connecting. I was using Express VPN, version 11.145.0 9161716). tried multiple VPN locations and same result.

I hope this works for all.

If there was an "issue" they cannot fix on a general basis millions of iPhone users wouldn't be able to use CarPlay daily.

Instead there's something unique to your configuration - a combination of VPN, device, and your car's firmware - that is causing issues.

Your best bet is what you are already doing - work with Apple Support directly.

My original post was removed twice now because it was "off-topic", which is incorrect. I am letting people know that Apple created new version of "CarPlay" with this update (ios 17). Or so it seems.

I found this on other (reddit) forums, where people actually get answers. So if Apple doesn't want to solve the issue, let me just share it at least.

What's frustrating is that apple support ignores the new carplay update:

iOS - CarPlay - Apple
