Export from encrypted document?

I have this encrypted document. I need to pull some of the pages out and send them to someone. I do not want to show the other pages to my correspondent.

In Finder the cover of the document has a window where I type in the password.

Get-info describes it as PDF document. Here is the part I do not understand. Get-info reports that the PDF is not locked and that I have permission to read & write on the PDF.

In Preview I can write on the document with the Text tool. I have not tried to save the document with my emendation, because that is not what I want to do. I want pull out some pages but not all of them.

I suppose I could take screenshots of the desired pages. That is cumbersome.

Is there some technique in Pages or Adobe Acrobat Reader that would allow me to extract certain pages from this password-protected PDF?

Using the command key, select just the thumbnails of the pages you want to share. Then visit File menu : Print… and under the Pages category, choose Selection in Preview. You will see just the thumbnails you selected appear in the pending print panel. Now click PDF, and choose Save as PDF to a different named PDF file and you have selected pages in a new PDF file. Below, I have chosen two non-contiguous thumbnails of a four page PDF.

It does not work. I duplicated the encrypted PDF. I opened the Sidebar to the thumbnails. Preview will not let me delete any thumbnail. I I also tried exporting _one_ thumbnail. Instead Preview exported all pages of the document as a copy of the PDF. And this exported copy is encrypted just as the original.

I can, however, print individual pages of the encrypted PDF. I guess I'll do that.
