iPhone 15 overheating

Hi everyone. I’ve recently purchased the new iPhone 15 pro max and it is heating up even when I’m not using it.

I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if it maybe a setting that is causing it that I can turn off?

Any advice is appreciated. :)

All famous smartphones makes can experience overheating for some customers, they usually come out with fixes or exchanges. Laptops and desk computers too the only ones (I think) that do not overheat are those phones with the keys you key in the number and make a phone call (analogue phones?) some have big keys too. Go for it

My new iPhone 15 Pro Max had about 45 minutes on a call this evening. No evidence whatsoever for heating, the phone felt completely normal. If anything it was running cooler than the Xs Max it has replaced.

Charging now, and the only reason it is in any way warm is because the MagSafe charging puck got up to about 40˚C and the heat transferred from the charger to the phone. Charging yesterday on a USB-C cable the warming was insignificant.

Same experience, along with draining 50% of my battery. I called Apple support and they were clueless. I went to the Apple store and they ran diagnostics, but found nothing. They offered to perform a factory reset to see if the issue persisted. I called Apple sales to have the phone replaced, but they do not offer advanced replacement. AppleCare refused to replace the phone because it was still within the 14 day warranty period. I am sending the 15 back for a full refund.

Last year apple sold 26.5 million iphone 14 pro max and 21 million iphone pro, this year the iphone 15 pro and pro max are already all sold out compared to last year, so in this thread probably is 3000 complaints which we do not know if are all genuine or if they are all related to a bug, or if it's because the iphone was new, so now suppose even a third of the sales by now it'd be the 0.02% of complaint cases that we are not sure if are genuine. This doesn't mean much in fact Apple has addressed the issue promptly with a fix coming out later this month, and stepped into the update of apps that were buggy. I'm impressed one was meta. Year after year with a new OS is the same, so if you are experiencing a problem the best approach in my opinion is to go to an Apple store where they can check the iphone properly

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just saying whats to be gained by telling people to not share their experiences. The whole point of forums like this and other communication channels is to share our thoughts, whether they be good or bad. Just like in this thread there are commenters saying that they haven't experienced issues, that too is valuable information. Clearly Apple has noticed this issue and I'm glad they're working on addressing whatever is causing this. I truly hope the issue is just a minority of iPhones (and it seems that is mostly software related), as that means that clearly its an isolated issue and can be fixed much easier.

I saw your comment earlier as well about how only those people who are new to the forum are complaining about heat issues. What do you mean by that? If your point is that they are spammers, I'm not sure thats the first explanation. I imagine most are just individuals who are confused and this is their first experience of an iPhone heating up more than usual and are coming to this channel and others to get help or share their experience. In fact, the attitude of some of the higher level members here is giving me much more concern.

It worked totally fine before, so I'm not sure that its Messenger directly. I've called again since on WiFi, and it has heated up again, but not as much. I have also uninstalled it since, but not run any specific tests to stress test the phone. I have used YouTube and it causes no problems at all. I'm also staying away from 5G for now. Do you have a link to where else the issue with 5G and eSIM has been reported?

Reading through a number of comments, I am suspicious many are submitted by trolls. I find it hard to believe Apple would release an iPhone that is chronically problematic right from the get-go. Whereas, unscrupulous competitors might find it advantageous to perpetuate a narrative of a broken design. Come on. Credit us for more sense than that.

I have not received my new iPhone yet, and perhaps, as LobstersGhost explains, it is to be expected that due to initial indexing the phone will experience higher than normal operating temperatures. But I reserve judgement on the other hysterionics without first hand experience.

I am not a troll. I’ve had my iPhone 15 PM since 9/24 and whenever I am on a phone call the phone starts to heat up and the battery drops about 1% per minute. Apple even addressed that there is an issue that will be fixed in late October on iOS 17.1. Indexing should be done. I have factory reset my phone without restoring from backup and I am still having this issue. I have had every iPhone except the 12 and 14 and never experienced this before
