iPhone 15 overheating

Hi everyone. I’ve recently purchased the new iPhone 15 pro max and it is heating up even when I’m not using it.

I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if it maybe a setting that is causing it that I can turn off?

Any advice is appreciated. :)

For all of you:

Do a simple Forced Restart on your new iPhone by:

  • Press and quickly release the volume up button
  • Then immediately press and quickly release the volume down button
  • Then immediately press and KEEP HOLDING the side power button and KEEP HOLDING it past the swipe to shut down and KEEP HOLDING it until the Apple Logo appears, then let go

Sign back in with your passcode when the phone prompt you and let the phone settle down over the next couple days. If you transferred a LOT of data, it can days for the indexing process to complete. There is likely NOTHING wrong with your phones.

There's been a lot of discussion on social media sites but I don't want to link them as they may not be correct.

  • A 5G network is a fast network and it allows download of a lot of data. Social media apps are notorious for significant background activities to pre-process data for a nicer user experience when you open the app. This consumes battery and generates heat.
  • When the 5G network is not available, the phone keeps trying to connect unless Auto is enabled for the phone to move to another network (4G). This also consumes battery and generates heat.
  • Under normal circumstances and with good use of OS, this in itself should not be a problem. But if there are OS bugs or app are not optimised there will be overload, heat and more battery issues.

Again, Apple has not disclosed the problems and they may never will. But rest assured they will be fixed in an OS update.

This is a serious matter. Don’t use it and return it if you can manage. Their replacement phones have different serial number which has been the case for a very long time. Current batch of replacement phones are likely to be new considering how long this phone has been on the market for. Never had a problem with their replacement phones as they come in grey cardboard box without cable etc. and they look new.

For me during my nightmare the best temperatures was when I take off the background app refresh, plus location off (that is not the best but maybe there is a intermediate solution turning off all you dont use a lot), plus using the iphone in low power mode. At last in the mean while until Apple fix it, that i’m pretty sure there will be looking how to solve the problem. I will come back to the iphone 15 pro max as soon they solve this, because the photos are gorgeous.

The update fixed the issues. More than likely by throttling the a17 processor and on the base model the heat issues have been resolved too probably by the same method of throttling. The one issue I have is the 15 lags or gets stuck where it’s unresponsive in certain cases like when using the photos app and editing photos while the camera app is still open or sometimes the keyboard gets stuck when camera is open. It’s annoying but at least the phone isn’t overheating anymore.

The battery drain was too much for a new iPhone 15 Pro. I returned mine and that resolved the issue. At some point I was averaging 1-2 % drop just grabbing the phone and opening safari. No other Uber instagram Facebook I do not have them as apps. Email was not set. 15 min browsing I had lost 22% reserve. Mild warm feeing if plugging it in. Definitely very different than the family’s 15 iPhone non Pro.

bring it in to the Genius Bar and have it tested there. But note that for all my iPhones going back 10+ years I patented and used cases with holes to enable battery cooling and that always worked for me. Most cases contribute to overheating as the polycarbonate traps the infrared. But if you feel it unusually hot, book an appointment and they can plug it and test it on the spot. I would also test with a clean, non back up image.
